I have a 07 vnl64t. Periodically I get a fault code mid 128 Sid 281 fmi 7. I can clear it and it goes away for a while. It just says mechanical fault. I have had issues with codes before so I was wondering if there is an online resource for Volvo codes if I need to look up any in the future. I dread going to the dealer for anything unless it's absolutely necessary.

Here is the information on your code. Hope it helps a bit.

    Condition for fault code:

    • The EGR temperature after the cooler has been reduced too fast during some seconds. The reason to the fast reduction of temperature is a reversed flow of charge air in the EGR system.
    Possible reason:

    • Faulty reed valves.
    • Faulty EGR temperature sensor.
    Reaction from EECU:

    • Fault code set.
    • Yellow lamp requested.
    Noticeable external symptom:

    • Yellow lamp lights up.

QUALITYTRUCK and Chris ITC740 Thank this.

Is the egr reed valve difficult to change? Where is it located and is it expensive? Thanks.

This happened to me a while ago. After a few months the code wouldn't clear. Had to go for new egrs AGAIN! Additionally they did EVER gasket from the exhaust manifold back to the muffler. Cost me $4800. Back in February.

Hopefully you have better luck then me.

Expensive. I am hoping it will just be a lose wire bad sensor or clogged tube. I will play with it this wk end. You see until yesterday she was doing 6.3-7mpg but now she is down to the 5mpg after 600mls 40k lbs 70mph straight through run from IA to ND..

No lose wire or a bad sensor but find out leaking egr tube and replaced I don't have no idea how much that May had to do something with fuel mpg drop.
