Hi guys I'm new to this trucker report.i bought a Volvo 780 about three months ago and I had to put in a d12 reman last month because one of the main bearings spun, the reman was installed and now it's making a ticking noise like its a loose valve or something,it was installed by my mechanic so I took it to Volvo and they checked the valve adj and said everything was fine and that it could be from the injectors but nothing is wrong,is this noise normal for a d12

i only heard it when he moved the camera down by the tire. It sounded pretty normal to me. I drive an s 60 and it makes all kinds of noises at idle. Does your noise go a away when you cruise? Detroit engines in general don't like not being loaded. They slop around when they idle. Mine was going thorough 1/2 gallon of oil every 15,000 miles. Winter came and i started idelign more and it jumped to 1 gallon/ 15,000 miles. I'd say a knocking sound at idle isn't bad but if it continues while cruising it might be bad..

Volvo ran the over head and said everything was ok,the old motor before I put the reman in never made that noise .thanks for the replies guys

Could it have anything to do with the air compressor,I also put that new
-
check also for leaks. sometimes a leak can sound like ticking. a second Volvo shop it's a good idea.
-
What kind of leak do you mean, thank you for the reply

even air compressor, exhaust, intake, a quick connector... I know, it is not helping you too much and without to see the truck, it is hard to point the finger to the problem. you have to take it slowly and check everything. Here it is something about what a Volvo can do. Also, you will hear a noise like a ticking and that is normal for Volvo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zXwOoeGzys#t=187
