Kind of like reading the Matrix code...

My company truck is stuttering and jumping under load, it is cold here in Chicago. The dealer said it could not replicate the problem. I told them it was so bad that it was even doing it bobtailing. I told them to get up to about 45 and drop it into a tall gear to simulate a load. It will bog and stutter... They are useless.

    I dug up these codes:

any help will be appreciated. Then I can tell them what to fix!

    ECM SPN 84, Wheel-Based Vehicle Speed – MID 128 PID 84
    Type of fault:
    FMI Description:
    Fault Condition:
    Possible Symptoms:
    Possible Cause:
    FMI 9
    • Abnormal update rate
    • Missing signal from VECU
    • Engine derate
    • SAE J1587 data link vehicle speed message does not exist, (VECU error)
    • VECU

I'm no expert but if it was intermittent then I would start looking at loose connectors at road speed sensor and also at vecu

For some reason the vecu is not getting the right info. This is either due to a bad connection or bad vecu itself. Wish I could help more

have you added fuel additive? Cant explain the codes, but it sounds like iceing fuel to me. Do you have a new dpf truck? Some (petes) have ishues keeping fuel warm in filters. They couldn't replicate it at shop do to fuel warming in the shop. Thats my guess.

    Yes.
Over several tanks, and weeks, I have tried several different anti-gel additives. Howes, 911, the stuff we get for free at the shop... Nothing helped. All those at my cost since "breakdown" says additives "void the warranty" and won't reimburse my expense.

Had the filters changed, but I did not know there are two filters. I am not sure they changed the one under the engine.

In a short while I am due for a PM and they will swap them out again. Several of our (Volvo) drivers are experiencing the same thing.

It is normally 40 degrees for a high temp in this area, this time of year. Today it was 1 degree when I set out.

    Can't wait for spring...
