    Wow, have you owned both? Or driven both? Or even driven a truck ? First, it's 1750 FT LBS of torque when full power is required. And it's not just hp and torque that gets you there. You can have all the hp and torque in the world but if the components are not speced properly to work together efficiently, They won't. If you had read and comprehended what I actually said... They way Volvo has the D13 set up with the ishift and rear gear sets it pulls better on a hill than my old Peterbilt with the C15. And gets so much better fuel mileage I'm saving my monthly payment in fuel savings. Why is it so hard for people, most of them who have never owned a Volvo, or any truck for that matter, believe that Volvo is actually a good truck?? I was once one of those people I guess, took me 5 trucks before I bought one.....

    Europeans invented the diesel engines and are years ahead of North America, from trucks to small cars; check the Volkswagen official website in UK,Germany,, vs US/canada; [TABLE="width: 100%"]
    [TR]
    [TD="width: 85%"]The Volkswagen vehicles using turbo diesel blue motion technology( based on same technologies ultra high injection pressure, VGT turbos,) on European market are getting over to 80 mpg,(not hybrid) and they are same size/weight like here; over double better fuel economy than the motors used in North America built in Mexico;
    I don't know why after 4-5 years Blue motion technology doesn't get on our market; check this 2 links the fuel economy for VW Golf, Jetta, Passat in UK vs USA/Canada;
    Example; Vw Golf TDI in EU is rated 88.3mpg vs---- 42 mpg Canada /USA;

    Please find where I've mentioned that I do not own the Truck. Second, if I get over 7mpg pulling heavy open deck loads with 2k+ lbtq with the equipment that 80%+ of mechanics, nationwide, know how to fix, if it needs to be, why would I want to own the piece of machinery which only one dealer chain can work on? Also, why would the Volvo with the D engine be sold at the cheaper price than with the Isx?

    Maybe because Volvo makes their own engines? They have to buy the ISX and adapt it to their truck??

    Please re-read my post. If you missed the info in it, let me explain, a little. : as long as it doesn't cross their border. Vw,Audi,mbenz,BMW might be good cars. But, in USA their quality suck. I'll buy new honda/Toyota product and it will last longer and be less expensive, it will be in the shop less, then Germans. Germans,however, are great cars, as long as they do not enter USA. The same goes for trucks.

    So.. Let me get this straight... German cars know when they cross the border, and stop working well when they do?? Have you ever owned a German car?? I've had several Mercedes and they are bulletproof, we are on our 2nd diesel VW bug. My wife drives 120kms a day to commute. First one (1999) had well over 400000 kms on it not a problem, and got 55mpg. we traded it in on a Pontiac vibe (Toyota) all wheel drive, couldn't get 20 mpg out of it, sold that and got another bug, 2006, it is approaching 200000 kms. Only regular maintenance. You seem to have lots of opinions, but no facts.

    What? Cummins is being squeezed out as most manufacturers are going in house for engines. Freightliner owned Detroit and you can only get Detroit Ina Freightliner! International tried that but the maxxforce was a disaster, so they rely on cummins, BUT they are working hard on bringing the maxxforce back to market as they want to keep their engines in house. Paccar has the MX, Cat is out of the truck market. In another 5 years all manufacturers will try to only offer their own engines and it will be a very expensive option to offer an out side manufacturer. They way they can control all the prramiters of the drive line in house and meet the crazy government mandated rules. You really need to read more.

    were not talking ancient times here. I believe thread is on present Volvo's on a volvo thread. LOL bragging about cat. That's old news. Cat so great where are they now for otr engines? Their not here cause they couldn't figure out how to make same great engine that is environmentally compliant. So don't waste your fingers on that. Besides they were the most gas guzzlers on earth . So get over the cat. Their gone and surely what's left out there not getting 7-10 mpg like Volvo's.
