Recently I had a water pipe rot out and lost all my antifreeze. I replaced the pipe but I can't get a straight answer from anyone about which coolant I should be using. My truck is an 07 Volvo with a D12d no DPF. My local Volvo/mack dealer sells only the green concentrate antifreeze or CAT ELC antifreeze. My general truck parts guy showed me a chart from zerex and they recommend Zerex G-05 (which is yellow) for this make and engine.
But there are now a ridiculous amount of coolants to choose from all with different additives. Zerex has red, blue, yellow, pink, clear, and green. What gives? And which is right?
I went with the G-05 yellow. Hopefully this is right. Anybody have any ideas?
What antifreeze/coolant should i use in a 07 Volvo?

I keep hearing different color antifreeze has different additive packs. While all heavy duty coolant is good at reducing cavitation around piston liners. Some offer better protection for alloy metals then aluminum. Some offer better protection at dispersing electrical charge s then others. CAT ELC is specifically made for their engine and it won't harm critical internal components like piston liner o-rings or injector seals.
But this Volvo just baffles me. Especially because the dealer doesn't even know. -
my owner's manual for the 07 Volvo gives mil specs and other SAE req. numbers for anti-freeze. the only one that I found with matching numbers was the Zerex for Asian cars. that's what I use. Volvo's antifreeze doesn't match with these specs. take that for what it's worth! the antifreeze is red, and comes in a black jug! Hammer down, driver.
