    Salesman said the 455 Eco torque gives 1750 torque. That's my worst enemy is my right foot. Sure after paying for fuel couple times that will be fixed. Weight thing killin me. Think if I'm able to only haul 38 k it will hurt me a lot finding loads? Dangggg I wonder how them guys with heavy trucks do it then with W900, WS etc. ? Really got me thinking........

    Your right, but with the 500 you can get 1850 torque. Lol you, you need to control your right foot. I think your over estimating the weight a little. Not sure what reefers weight, but im thinking 19,500 for the truck. Even less if you don't fill your tanks. maybe 18k for the reefer. (check that) still able to haul 42,000. Unless you way 500 pound yourself, you and your stuff prob weight 500-750, not a whole 1000.

    Before you buy, call a reefer rental place and ask what the weight is. Or whoever your buying from. Then get the weight of the truck from the salesman. Now you have a better picture of what you can haul.

    your dead on. 19,500 truck, 14 k on trailer but TK Unit 4 k with tank installed puts that 18. That's what 37,500 without me and stuff I'll be adding. Say 1 k to be safe then full tanks that hold 275 and 50 gallons 325 times 2600k puts a sad total of 41,100. To be honest that worries me and has me changing plans and going dry van. Hummmmmmm

    Opt for smaller100g fuel tanks and purchase a mid roof instead of a condo. Yes you lose space and may have to stop more, but that can save probably close to 1,000#. Super singles weigh a little less than dual tires also. Most states allow a 400# weight exemption for apu equipped trucks, you can find the state listing online i think its up to 38states now. I had an 05 Century condo with a GD reefer and weighed 35,700 empty. Maybe check out some other manufacturers trucks for weight.

    Are you set in Volvo? You could drop a few pounds going with a freghtliner. Also, SS loose 500 pounds. Don't fill your truck fuel tanks unless u have a light load. Make sure rims are aluminum

    D13 500/1650-1850 ECO Torque, 3.36 rears with I-Shift comprehensive. Disk brakes all around. Volvo VF 13.2K front leaf, Meritor 38-40K rears, with Michelin supersingles. If you planning on getting your truck later on, I would also opt for Volvo new Blade rear suspension. It is lighter then the current Volvo air suspension and has a better ride qualities. Later this year it'll be available with Volvo disk brakes.

    3.36 would be a horrible spec for him. On the singles it would mean 1600 rpms to achieve the desired 68 mph for cruising. If he ever wanted to go faster he would be winding out that motor like mad. He would never get to run in direct and thus save mechanical losses. Use the eaton rear calulator before suggesting a rear that wont work. Final gear on ishift is .78, not ,73 or ,74 like you see on many trans.

    Get your facts right before saying anything. Have you read anywhere in my message word "low pro"? I suggested Michelin supersingle tires, I haven't suggested a lowprofile tire! Michelin X One XDN2 has a size of 455/55/22.5 @ 491 revs. With the rear end 3.36 I suggested, it will put him at 1458.29RPM @ 68MPH. Perfect RPM for power and economy. I'm well aware about Volvo trucks, I-Shift and it's final drive. I owned 2 Volvos before as a matter of fact.

    More suggestions to the OP. I understand that you will run to the west coast. I would suggest a Michelin tires all around. XZA+ for the steers and XDN2 thread pattern for the drives. You can go with duals or supersingles on the drives with this thread pattern of XDN2 or XOne-XDN2 (supersingle). Michelin XDN2 thread has superb all season traction and excellent thread longevity. I never rotate my drive tires and the last 780 I sold (in my sig) had the XDN2 drives with around 350K miles on them still 30% good thread.

    I would strongly advice to put your Volvo truck on a regular hight rubber. The reason for this is, Volvo has a very rough ride when bobtailing over bumps as it is, with low profile tires and the front leaf axle being just under your feet where many in dash components are installed (ex. AC components, heater core), you'll feel every pothole on your way to west coast while your dash and inside components are getting loose and hammered. Volvo doesn't shine with it's dash sturdiness, so I would strongly recommend keeping your truck as high of the ground as possible.

    A few other things you might consider are:

    Aliarc moose bumper, installed at the dealer at around $3000 with credit of the factory plastic bumper. Again, Volvos sit very low in the front, and their radiator tube is very close to the ground, so even if you hit a rabbit head on, there is a good chance that it will rip off your rad tube and you'll end up on the side of the road without coolant. (I've had few similar mishaps myself). Plus, Volvos are very weak around the front rad grill and headlights. Not the same type of fibreglass toughness as Paccar trucks.

    Volvo now offer factory installed Truck-Lite LED headlamps (high and low) and LED interior lighting. Also there is an option to spec HD wrap on chassis electrical wiring and kevlar reinforced fuel lines at around $200 for each option.

    I would also go for factory installed Xantrex inverter/charger with Penn Deka AGM deep cycle batteries and Webasto parking heater. All factory installed!

    Above all, I the first thing I would go for is Volvo Gold (not Platinum) plan extended warranty (without deductibles) for 5years or 500K miles. Dealer can also add to that Gold plan alternator, starter and electrical component warranty for same amount of years/miles. I-Shift is covered from factory by more then enough warranty at no additional cost. I believe around 750K miles.
