That's your crankcase filter.
butterbean1977 Thanks this. -
is he talking about the crankcase filter, or the ecm?????
the 05 i drove, it was ecm. i think the 09 model year had ecm sat behind that filter. -
That is so the government can watch your every move. The only way to disable is to coat all your windows with tin foil when you are sleeping at night
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
lol... The ecm???

I read the title and the first thing I thought of was that Cummins was getting into the DVD rental business...
Milktanker, Big Don, nshore harleyguy and 2 others Thank this. -
The finned cover that overlaps the block and head is the crankcase filter. Ignore the recommended service interval, change it every 50k and reduce idle time to as close to zero as you can; you will pretty much eliminate spurious " warn engine" messages with meaningless fault codes.
The box behind the finned cover with the wiring is the engine ecm. (The bcm, body control module, is inside the truck. ) If its painted its the original but I vaguely remember something about a recall and the replacement would be unpainted. You might want to check with a stealership.Last edited: Apr 29, 2014
