Were there any real issues electrically with the older Volvo VNL trucks? I'm looking at a 2001 with a Detroit and 10 speed, just curious what word on the street was. I've heard about shock mounts breaking on the Gen 3(2004) and up. Thanks.

I have owned a 2001 VNL 770 with a Cummins N14 Celect Plus, 13 speed since 2003 and it has been basically trouble free. I don't know much about 2004 and up, the shock mounting brackets and points look the same as Gen 2, I've never heard about any issues on those parts.

2001 Volvo is not Verson-II, Volvo calls it '98 Version. Really '98 Version is evolution of '94 FH/FM cabovers and creating conventional truck that shares much with EU cabovers.

But really pre Version-II trucks are more reliable and not too complicated like Version-II. The only thing I really hate on 98-2001 volvos are headlamps. They used plastic headlamps like on cars and they go dim in first 3-5 years. and IMO Volvo headlamps made H4 and HB5 bulbs are crap! Simple 7" round headlamp is much better.

What do I like volvo? For cabin comfort. It's really good
