    2007 780, D12 889,xxx miles.

My hvac fan speed is erratic. I am pretty darn sure it is not the fan motor because moving the knob back and forth from level to level sometimes gets it to blast, sometimes gets it to go lower that the position it is set at. What does work is a swift smack to the control unit itself, or the dash just above! :biggrin_25523: I was just wondering if this is a common problem, and if so is it a short or something in the dash, or is the control unit going to fail on me soon?

I know, I know... it could be a bunch of different problems, but I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem with their Volvo and what the fix was.

    Thank you.

My 09 780 did exactly the same thing for about 2 weeks, before the fan motor up and died. $665 to replace. ;-/

Yeah, that might be the dying moments of your fan motor, and yes, they are pricy. However, you may luck out and it be either something loose under the dash, or the knob could be going bad. I had a kind of similar experience a year or so ago, and before I took anything apart, I pulled the knob off and shot some computer cleaner canned air into it and that fixed it.

Was that just for the part, or parts and labor?

I'm pretty sure it's the knob, I hope you are right. I'm just going to take the control unit out and clean up all the connections and everything.
