I have a 2000 Volvo 770- n-14 Celect plus engine 3 pedal auto shift. found out engine is set at 435/ 1650.

2nd truck is a 2002 Volvo 670, Cummins ISX, 10 speed manual. set at 500/ 1800 +/- according to Volvo shop.

had the second truck In the shop for a Low fuel pressure code/ light. yet the shop could not duplicate issue, :biggrin_25512:and charged over $400 for a single service charge.:biggrin_25510::biggrin_25510:

we would like to know what we need to do both trucks and or engine diagnostic's, troubleshooting, change engine parameters, speed limiters, etc. Check on the transmissions, chassis etc.

will one Vcads system work on both trucks?
ARE the vcads sold on line for $300-500 worth the money and do what we need? or only a simple code reader?

please provide specifics on software, cords, which vcads or a specific cummins engine computer reader we will need. will software for the n-14 also work with the cummins isx? or is the "tuning" changed too much to work together?

Thanks guys.. Keep the shiny side up and rollin!!!

VCADS wont do you any good on either volvo for the engine. VCADS will only read/program volvo manufactured components. You need Cummins Insite 8.0 and an Inline 6 adapter to talk to the engine. Insite will read any cummins engine made w/ the proper licensing. Or you could buy a Nexiq USB-Link to be more generic and able to use w/ most programs.

OK. Looking at the Cummins Inline 5 V- 7.6 or Inline 6 KIT systems. there are some for $250 to $900. they all seem to come with the same hardware, and software CD, I looked online for any software updates for the N-14 celect + and there are none. (for drivability)

there are options for additional horsepower though- But appears to be only thru the dealers. (where is the CPL stamped/ listed at ???

there is different access levels also- basic- limited and pro and RG?? we are owner ops, so we can change what we feel is necessary.

It also appears that I have to "buy" a password or ? to activate the software in order to use it? does this password expire?

also in doing some online reading- it appears that software expires in 6 months time, so does that mean if we purchase one of these, we will be required to buy a software license? or password every 6 months just to use it if we have issues with engine?

Anyone with actual experience with this "kit" have any tips, advice etc? If we can get one of these kits for $250-350 it would pay for itself quickly. if we are required to continually buy software passwords, I can see where it would not be worth it.

    Thanks for the help guys..

It's mind boggling that these companies on his website keep charging for passwords, all you need is a key generator program to get around the Password issue.
My point is, you bought the software it's yours, you shouldn't be held accountable for every month every year to use it.
Most of these software here is a hidden file that keeps the key generator in it once you find that you can delete it and reinstall the software sometimes you just have to backdate your computer to the time you installed the software.
or used a key generator program to make an new key file.

Don't buy 7.6 it will not be renewable after this year. Basic does not let you change parameters. V6killer, that is illegal. I have to pay yearly to fix them, why shouldn't you. The software is yearly not 6 month. Buy the software direct from Cummins, usually any other site is selling you illegal copies of it. Same with adapters, most of them are cheap chinese knockoffs. Have to be careful. Inline.cummins.com and insite.cummins.com

for auto shift u need service ranger.

There is no VECU on your truck (it was used ith Volvo engines and ISX), so u need no VCADS

For N14 u can download old version of Insite free, for example 4, 5 ore 6 version. U need no reason to pay for 7.

OK, So if I purchase a Cummins Inline 5 Insite 7.62 Diagnostic Code Diagnostic Scanner J1939 like this-- FOR THE N-14 Volvo--
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cummins-Inl...1423942700&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

then goto inline.cummins site and download version 5 or 6 program- like this site--
    http://inline.cummins.com/downloads/i6driver.html
get a "KEY for pro level, So I can actually do some changes and such with the engine, I would be good to go then??

will the same Insite adapter with a different software package for the ISX also work?
Thanks for the help guys!!! MUCH appreciated.
