Why would Cruise control work only when it wants?

It never works first thing in the morning. After a few off/on cycles doing drop and hooks it might work during one.

If I leave the truck running it stays working.

I forget the model. It is an Ishift, last six of the vin are 138292.

If anyone has any clue, info would be appreciated. I have been to two of the three volvo dealers around chicago and have not been impressed yet.

    Thanks,

    Mikeeee

My company bought 2012 volvo with i-shift at Volvo in Alsip a month ago. I drove it to Elk grove village and i noticed that cruise is not working. We took it to the shop and they reolaced some sensor or switch under the brake pedal. Its working now.

Pull the trolley valve once during driving. Then it should work.

Try tapping the brake and also lifting up on both the brake and clutch pedal.

It is an Ishift, no clutch pedal. I have tried lifting the brake pedal to no avail. Only key on/off seems to work, and not consistently.

Even main power switched off several minutes then back on does not reset anything reliably to work.
    No visible alarms on dash.

I will try the trolley handle theory tomorrow. And look for fault codes, but no alarms on dash.

    thanks all,

    Mikeeee

I do that at every hook to test the kingpin connection and trailer brakes.

But will try it while rolling up to a traffic light to see if it does anything.

Could a bad electrical pigtail cause this problem? I am getting intermittent ABS light on my dash with almost all the trailers I hook to. Just a few seconds it will be on, then go off. another driver suggested replacing the pigtail if that is happening.

My trailer ABS light also comes and goes.
I dont think its anything to do with cruise control.

Nothing in the pigtail. It's a design thing. I've had it in Freightliners, KWs, Volvo, and a Pete. It's a sensor issue. When you're on the road, pull it just a little. Don't pull it down all the way, although it could be entertaining. But usually, it will let you engage the cruise. Also try pressing the clutch.
