1997 Volvo has developed a recent issue with what I can only call clutch slippage? The clutch was replaced winter 2013. Recently while pulling a hill or accelerating, the clutch? will slip. RPM will race. Shifting to a lower gear or not accelerating quickly will keep the problem at bay. I was told by a mechanic that a simple clutch adjustment will not affect this. True? False? This truck has recently developed a significant oil leak towards the front of the motor as well, could this perhaps be affecting the clutch performance? Thank you in advance for any input.

Yes. Oil saturated clutch perhaps. Also watch the brakes on the drivers. Need to stop that oil leak now.

Have the clutch adj. so it has some free/play at top of petal, if no free play that is why its slipping

Adjusting the clutch has nothing to do with slipping. Okiedokie is corrent in the previous post.

OP says the oil leak is towards the front of the motor, how would that affect the clutch at the back?
