here is the problem im having. 2 moths ago i was having issues with my batteries almost dead and barely starting the truck so i replaced all the batts with brand new ones. seemed to solve the problem for a bit but in the last few weeks im back to the same problem. figure it cant be the batts so i must have a drain somewhere. I was at a trailer rental place returning a customers trailer and i was sitting with the truck off and the four way flashers on and the park lights on so they could inspect the trailer. i had my bunk light on and within literately 5 mins all my interior lights went out, my dash cam, cb, gps and all other cig lighter plugs shut off. i started the truck and it did a hard start and used so much to start it wiped the memory on my am/fm radio (very annoying to have happen). once the truck started all accessories and light came back on. i had to go into the bunk panel menu and shut off the lvd because it would start beeping within a min or 2 of the truck being off even with no lights on, just the gps and dash cam. i can pull up to a security gate, shut the truck off with my foot on the brake, ring the intercom and within 3 min of sitting the batts are draining and hard start. what in the hell could be draining the batteries that fast. i have heard people having draining issues because of their batt cut off switch. how easy is it to remove it? also my other big worry is with all the drain and hard starts i may have pooched my new batteries and they are no longer holding a decent charge. it to the point now where i don't even want to shut the truck off.

The ALT. is not charging the BATT. enough to build up charge, slipping belt can be a cause or mostly alt. is worn out, get to ele. shop tools an get it fix with cold weather coming hard starts are near?

Have you checked the charging volts at the alt and at the batts? Very well could be a grounding issue.

when running the volts are 13 to 14 on dash display. had all wires checked and cleaned and brand new belt. and as for cold weather, i live in vancouver bc canada, it doesnt snow here and the coldest it usually gets in the winter is maybe 5c or 40f. going to have the alt checked tomorrow. i did notice tonite when i rolled the windows up with the truck running and i kept pushing the button once the window was up my dash lights and headlight dimmed every time i pushed the up on the button. its just electrical problems are frustrating

With eng. off turn belt over so you can see the inside of belt to see if its slick or shine, sign of sliping, they give a way a belt gauge when you buy new belt to show wear on inside of belt,

If the lights are dimming then there is a grounding issue somewhere. A couple places to have then check is the block ground lug and also there is one inside the frame rail on drivers side. Yes, electrical is a pain. I have a friend that had a problem where his truck would hit a bump and shut off then right back on. Chased it for 6 months. Turned out it was a bad starter. It was grounding out on the inside.

I would also load test batteries maybe you just got bad batteries(I recommend interstate batteries)..try parasitic battery drain test

You still have to have the alternator bench tested no matter what the volt meter says. I pull mine out once a year. Even though my volt meter says 13 to 14 volts he said it was at about 60% so I had it rebuilt.

i took the battery cut off switch out after work today. truck starts perfect now. hopefully thats all the problem was. still took the time to check all my ground while i was under there. all looks good. going to wait a few days and get the alt bench tested since the switch was not letting the truck use full batt power it may have put extra strain on the alt. better safe than sorry.

    Skate-Board Thanks this.
