For those who might be interested, I decided to abandon my project of making kits for the low beams.. But I did get some brackets made. I will keep a few sets just in case.. But I will make a separate thread in a few days about how you can swap them out and will sell about 15 sets of brackets.

They let you bolt in an aftermarket HID projector into your original headlight without having to open up the headlight. They fit through the rear hole.

HHRV retains the High/Low beam function.

Has anyone had any problems with DOT that has done the conversion????

The developer of the volvo kit (Dave Dixon) just a while ago on a RV forum schooled us on the 'after market'.
From part numbering systems ,installation requirements (all mounts and tabs must be OEM compatible) where the bulb filiment is and how it effects your eyeball (retina) dilation, cut off of the beam , low and high.Saturation , colour temp (very important). The use of fans in some of the aftermarket LED's- much cheaper then heat sinks - and a clear sign they are being 'overdriven' power wise.
In other words all the stuff to watch to be sure your not buying illegal lights.

After I installed the lights from HHRV I went into two DOT inspections and nobody had any complaints.

I had one of the headlamps replaced on a 2005 volvo...old one was yellowed and oxidized beyond use. The dealer however didn't aim it properly and had it pointing too far towards the ground. Generally cant trust the hired help to make such a delicate adjustment for you anyway. I found the adjustment bolt and started tweaking both of them bit by bit every night till they were just were I wanted them.

lighting performance is definitely not awesome with the OEM headlamps but it's not that bad if they are brand new and aimed properly.

that's also a good way to start a car fire. Overwattage bulbs are generally not safe to use in plastic housings or with stock small gauge wiring harnesses.

Chinese made projectors that come in the kits are probably not the best either, although way better than stock.

An OEM quality D2S projector like the S2000's would be ideal, or a european spec clear glass projector like what Audi or BMW uses. There are actually whole forums dedicated to Xenon HID lighting geekery (HIDplanet) for anyone interested getting deep in the weeds on this topic.

i bought the same kit from dave. newer kits have a purple box relay that bypasses the high beam bulbs. if you unplug it and go buy some good quality led high beam bulbs and plug it into where the relay thing was then you have high beams in the projectors and high beam location. and since they are led they will not trip the open circuit warning on the dash. if you use the normal halogen high beam bulbs then you will get the open circuit warning. i did this to my truck and it works perfect. well worth the money i spent considering i can actually see the road at night now. i aimed them so the lows are not blinding to other drivers but still allow me to see maybe 10 car lengths in front of me and the high beams i swear i can see 1/4 mile ahead of me. i love them.
