Hey guys so the hum/vibration at 62mph turned out not to be a differential problem but rather a tranny one. When my mechanic tore it apart we saw a broken bearing on the flywheel immediately and wear on most gears. Now my question is, Does $4,500 reasonable for parts? That includes all new gears and bearings, clutch, flywheel and anything else i didn't mention in a transmission. For labor im okay with, $1200 . But the parts sounded kinda high. Also this is on a VOLVO vnl 630, 2006. With Cummins isx-450

And what transmission does it have then?
I would be getting a price from Wheller and comparing them. The Wheeler warranty is good anywhere, where as yours rebuilt is only warrantied at the shop that did it pretty much.
Labor should also be considerably cheaper, as it is a R&R vs a rebuild.

That is awful high unless it is an exotic / complicated transmission. Depends on type tranny, and what else is being done. Check into exchanging for a rebuilt unit. usually cheaper.

I have exact same problem with my Volvo 630 2009. Looks like it's common thing to the Volvo. Please keep posting how it came out, what you did.

Edit: the price is $3,800 for parts. And its in process to getting fixed
Btw the tranny had over a million miles by dont know its original. The engine was overhauled once and by dealer before I purchasedLast edited: Oct 20, 2014

Tranny from salvage yard cheaper I think. Isn't it?

Yes by $200, but for such a small difference I said what the heck might as get a basically new transmission with all new Eaton Fueller parts instead of a used one with about the same or a little less miles but later on, I might be in the same boat again.

We get our transmissions rebuild around $3500 (parts and labor)

So I went to test drive yesterday and its doing the same #### thing. Now they think its the front drive shaft cause we already did the back one. I told him im not paying til this problem goes away. -
Wobble!! Finally I got my truck back and the vibration/grind went away. We replaced some broken bushings in the front differential right behind cab, and voila the symptoms are gone.
The trans rebuild was successful cause i had a bearing on clutch and flywheel broken with no balls in bearing- so that was bouncing around. Also the gears had wear and noticeably needed change. Now its a smooth ride and freaking smooth shifts.
