Hi,
I have got a Volvo with D12. The exhaust temp stays all the way to the right or max. So I am wondering if it is the sensor that went bad or wiring issue.
The he other question I have is. I drove from Minneapolis mn to Nashville tn. Bobtail 65mph max and the best I could get out of it was 7.8mpg
then pulled box trailer and loaded with 40k lbs from Nashville, tn to Dayton oh and idled couple hours or bit more and the best I could get out of it is 6-6.1mpg. Any suggestion to get better mpg will be great. Thanks allot

The d-12 is not known for fuel mileage. I bought one in 07 and peddled it down the road a year later for the same problem. Went back to kw's. As for the pyrometer pull the sensor and check end for swelling, end broke off ect. More than likely the probe in the exhaust

Thanks for your help

Also check the volvo forum lots of answers and i'm sure it's been covered more in depth there. Good luck

If the issue isn't with the sensor and it is indeed running hot, my next question is do you have a boost gauge? If you are losing boost on the turbo then carefully check to see if the turbo area metals are changing color from getting scorching hot. Check for cracks in the charge air cooler, which in turn will cause the turbo to overwork while losing boost.
My brother has a '03 KW with a DD 12 that was damaged by a greenhorn pulling out of a truck stop slot next to him. New fender, but the shop didn't check pressure in the charge air cooler. He lost one mpg and power. Then he installed a pyrometer and boost gauge and it was running hot with boost that seemed low. After one round trip with the gauges installed he found a crack in the turbo. After replacing the turbo and exhaust manifold it ran much better, with full boost, but the damage had been done. Gaskets and fuel injectors had to be replaced.
