Probably looks like part of spider gears in the power divider better u just get it rebuilt before it takes the diff with it
-
Probably the ring or pinion or both. Wouldn't be bearings because you would hear that. You need to get it services right away or you might drop a drive shaft.

I just went through the same thing. Ended up replacing it with a used one did everything with a buddy mechanic and my total bill was a few bucks under 1500 if you go to a shop and get a reman you're looking at 3500, that's what inland quoted me. Mine had excessive play in it once we got it out and the front yoke seal was shot. Better to get that fixed before something breaks out on the road.

O and the price of rear end depends on what you have in there. Mine was a merritor with 3.55. But make sure you get the exact same one. I had to swap my old yoke onto the new-used unit.

Asked shop today, they said $1800 to rebuild it.
-
If thats parts and labor that's not bad at all. Are they giving you a warranty?
-
I spoke with disel power reman in pierceton, in. They said to rebuild front diff $1800, rear $1600 that includes 1 year warranty including labor
-
As long as it's 1 year and unlimited miles or at least 100k that's a preety good deal.
