Im having a similar problem as daddy&mama2go, i have a 2007 Volvo 780 with the D12 engine, just got it took it on one trip and when i got home my air pressure started to go down, after three minutes of sitting in line to unhook trailer my low pressure warning siren started going of, kinda surprised me since i was sitting and i never had an issue the whole trip, i step on the accelerater and broke it up to 80 psi, then a minute later it was back under 60, so i finally got in the yard, unhooked and proceeded to go home with only 60 psi of pressure, it keeped going down to 40 psi since i was driving slow, of course my high gears wouldnt work since i didnt have enough pressure, oh yea i have a speed shift auto tranny (i think thats whats its cald) or i shift...so i was worried that my brakes would lock up so i got home as fast as possible. The truck hasnt moved since. I turned it on today for about an hour hoping it was a one time thing, but nop, no air pressure, i reved it up for about ten minutes, and i got it as far as 30 psi... looked around for leaks but couldnt find anything... is there a way i can check if my compressor is good? Or does anyone have any suggestions? ? I put everything i had into this truck and the permits to be a o/o, and i have $40 in my pocket and really hope its not the compressor. ...help me plz
No Air pressure, plz help

The first thing I would check is the air governor. It is usually located on or near the air compressor. You can usually hear air coming from it if it is bad. You can buy them for about $12-22. If that is not the problem you might check the air dryer. Once you locate the air dryer see if you can hear air coming from the bottom. You can stick you hand underneath and see if you can feel air leaking. If so, there could be grit preventing it from closing. It might also need the filter changed. The last air dryer I bought cost about $345, as I recall. Another thing to check would be pressure release valve. It should be on the side of your air compressor. If it is bad, you should be able to feel air coming from it. Those valves, sometimes called "pop off valves" cost about $45. At least that is what I paid for my last one. These don't go bad very often. Once the pop off or release, you will need to replace it. I would suspect the air governor. It is the least expensive thing to replace and is the most likely thing to fail. Other things you might check are other pressure release valves. You should have those on your air tanks.
double yellow Thanks this. -
Air pressure regulater? The volvo 780 has one??
-
Ok i will check all that in the morning, is there any way to check the compressor itself to take that of the list?

You could take an air line loose and see if it is pushing air through the line. From your post, I don't think it is the air compressor. I usually start with the most obvious or least expensive thing to repair and work my up to the most expensive. The compressor would be the most expensive repair. As I stated, my guess is that the air governor is the most likely culprit. I have had air governors fail and they simply won't build air when they go bad.

It looks like your air compressor is working since you could build up air to 30 psi. like previous guy said it looks like your air governor is bad. Very easy to replace and also cheap. Located on the driver side firewall left upper corner.

Is that its location on a 2007 volvo 780 with the D12 ?
-
check the footvalve as it can go bad or get dirt/sand in it

Governor is mounted on the firewall, drivers side, top corner, as posted IIRC
