    RUN, don't walk, away from that truck! You'd have to replace the cam for sure. Not cheap. Plus whatever else it might of taken out in the time it was run like that.

    All depends on how mechanically inclined you are. I would cut it's comparable value by approx. $3-4k.
    If it's only a bad cam lobe, you would need to replace the cam and it's rockers and followers but it can get deeper real quick depending on how long it was ran that way.
    Anyway they would let you or a mechanic look at the engine opened up?

    Socal Xpress and Johny41 Thank this.

    Well ive built a few gas engines like my 418 stroker LS3 for my 99 Escalde and my 408 stroker for my 2003 Saleen, and i worked on many small diesel engines such as light towers and heavy equipment at the rigs... im good at the work, just not much knowledge on diagnosis. .. in other words im a good machanic, just need to be told what to do... as for the labor, i will do it all, and this 40000 truck is only 18k...so not to bad on price...and i drive a 2007 volvo 780 with the D12, so an 08 with a D13 shouldnt be to different, ive done all repairs on the 07 since ive been driving it..

    Johny41 Thanks this.

    What year is the truck, model, mileage, price,transmission?
    I posted photos few months ago with my bad cam lobe , in the thread below,;
    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...56103-volvo-d13-injector-cups-fail-again.html

    Depends how bad is it, I did 3 years team over 500,000 miles with this bad cam, I knew is bad, they told me to fix it in next 50,000 m8iles; when I first did the injectors in 2010/11, but I was ok 500k and when I re[placed was not causing problems; the job was about 4500CAD$ ( I did it here in Ontario @ Volvo in Ayr) parts labor including camshaft, cam bearings rocker arm; The camshaft cost about 1800$; but be careful where you are doing the job, this moving parts need to get installed back with right torque settings. I reached 1,400,000 miles this week on mostly original motor,, I replaced this cam and the injectors twice no in frame yet, ; ; still running ok, doesn't burn any oil or make noises;
    This motor has problems with injector cups, this cam seems soft ,some emission issues but..... is very good on mpg,;
    for cam only I wouldn't run from the deal ;here is record of my last 73,000 miles, over 8 mpg, , pump to pump including regen and idling fuel, I don't have APU
    ; I'm puling for Celadon Canada, all kind of dry van loads from 10,000- to 45,000 lbs, not light only; MPG slowly dropping over past months, It's getting cold :(
