Hi,
I have a 2006 D12 engine and worked fine last Sunday, went out Wednesday and wont start. Tried prime a few times, fired up eventually. I put fuel into her and she worked great about 10-15 minutes when I was moving it around the yard. Was about to back in and she shut down. Nothing I could do would start her again. Tried numerous times. She has fuel, primed it numerous times. Today she fired up and ran fine about 5 minutes and shut down. NO WAY will she start again. The filters are full of fuel with no visable bubbles in the filter. When bleeding the top of the motor, the fuel comes out with no sign of bubbles.
Started looking further into it, and went to the dash after checking out the fusable wire above the batteries (read that fails sometimes) On the fault diagnostics, engine ecu, I am getting "operation failed".. Is that normal?
Just got her back from an unexpected $3200 repair, hate to have it towed in again.(I am about 45 minutes from the nearest truck shop and two hours from the nearest volvo dealer.)
I was thinking originally it was freezing up, temps last week its been dropping to 17. Added the anti gel and don't think that is the current issue?
Thanks!

You're ecm is loosing power check the small wires on batteries if u can't pull fault codes u have no power or no ground from batteries to ecm
peifamily Thanks this. -
Thanks!
Can a ground wire be run to the ECM to help troubleshoot?
Have a charger on it now and also have the cables disconnected. -
Make sure u have the small power wires tight check make sure fuse is not burnt can't really run an extra ground anywhere
-
Thanks, Went and pulled the wires off, clipped the ends and recrimped them.. IT STARTED!! Now.. I noticed the bars across the batteries are pretty dirty/corroded so going to get them off and polished up or replaced. I think I will pick up new ends for the ECM wiring and trace them back as far as I can to make sure no issues are still present.
Thanks for your help!

It's a harnes u can buy at volvo not very expensive
-
Thanks! I will give the nearest dealer a call tomorrow. I drove two hours yesterday to pick up a new dipstick and they gave me the wrong one so I need to head there soon anyways.
-
I see u know the dipstick is connects just like an airline right with a push fitting
-
Maybe I didnt get the wrong one then? But for the life of me, I couldnt get it apart from the other section. Should the tab be pulled up some to release? I tried to budge each direction and wouldnt move.. Ended up popping one piece of the "airline" fitting tab off, Tried pushing and no luck.

U leave everything in the oil pan take a big screwdriver and push next to the stick u can see fitting kind off its just like plastic air fittings exactly same pull the old off and put new one on just push in
peifamily Thanks this.
