Hello, ive been driving a 2007 volvo 780 with the D12 and autoshift, its a nice ride and good on mpg, had a few issuses with the air compressor but i asked around these forums and got it fixed really quick, i decided to get my own authority (which i did, got my buisness going just waiting on truck) and get my first truck, I was in the process of getting a 2008 Kenworth T2000 with the Cummins isx 475 and the autoshift as well at a steal of a price, 22k. The holidays got in the way of a speedy get away and gotta wait till the first week of December for the loan to come through. Well i caught wind of a 2003 Volvo 780 for sale at a ridiculous price. 3k. The people selling it dont know anything bout the truck, the say the old man working on it passed away and left it unfinished. They said the engine needed some work, that the engine was taken out for repair (I'm guessing an overhaul). Other than that it just needs new tires but they say the truck is complete. It has an autoshift as well with a cummins isx 425 or 450 i think... ima go check it out in person, its only 5 hours from my location. So i can assess the repair damage to the truck... just wanted to get some feed back on the 2003 Volvo VNL780, i like the 2007 but how good is the 2003? Spacious? Recalls? Positive and negative feedback would really help... Im really good with mechanical issues, so im hopping its something i can fix... im just thinking in the sence that i wont need the loan to get this truck, i got 10k on me for the truck and repairs. This way i wont owe 12k to no one..

Its hard to give an advise in this situation, because either one is not a good buy.
-
If it's no good you can always part it and get your money back out of it
-
2003 is the old style Volvo model 770.
-
3k?? I would buy it sight unseen! Like was said, part it out if you have to. Get your money back plus some!

Why is niether a good buy basarab?

2004 was a split year. I drove a 04 VNL 660 which was the last of the first generation. All the books say '03, but there was a few '04s. But you are right, the VNL 780 was the 2nd generation.

2003 770 doesnt have egr's vpods and others craps, rebuild engine , tranny and you have no problems

I would never take truck with old autoshift transmission. Its hard to find problems because it has its own ecm and wiring , unless you convert to manual.
