I have 2008 Volvo VNL 465, D13 with a manual trans 13sp. I gave a jump start to another truck and since then I get the IMAG0257.jpg IMAG0258.jpg code MID 140 PID 158 FMI 3. I know it related to High Voltage, but could it be my alternator to be bad? It`s output is sometimes 15.5V and if I turn my lights on it drops to 14.6V.....

Same happened to me. I was driving down Louisiana and all of a sudden in the darkness my headlight lit up like freaking hids and the cluster started going bonkers. Read 15-21 volts. Crap!! Stopped at the service plaza and turned truck off. Smelled burning as I opened hood. Alternator was done, son. I didn't have tools to remove it, so I cut the belt. (N14 with 3 different belts) and drove to a shop on batteries only. Made it and got a new one the next day.

I now replace alternator and belts every 2 years. Cheap insurance.

How did you replace the alternator belt on your N14? I’ve done the fan belt, by taking the fan off and etc... just curious to the alternator belt, Cummins literature was not helpful on that one - it just says take belt off lol and put belt on

All the belts on a Volvo equipped with a N-14 can be replaced without removing any components, including the fan.

You just need to study how to remove it, finesse the old one out and the new one in.

I'm not by my truck at the moment, so I don't remember how I changed the alternator belt, but I didn't have to remove anything.

I believe I had to thread it through each fan blade and over the fan hub.
