Hi there! I have a '07 Volvo VNL reefer. When I turn my ignition on, the truck fuel pump is not making a noise. After I've had my oil change, they told me that the fuel pump might not be working. So afterwards they had to spray a bunch of starter fluid just to start my truck.

Anyone have any idea why this happens?

Thank you in advance for any and every advice!!

    Dave.

I had the same problem for years. Recently got my oil changed, told the guy it never starts after they replace the fuel filter, have to prime and pressurize the fuel pump. He pulled the fuse and discovered it was a 10 amp and replaced it with 30 amp which is the right size. Your fuse might be blown. Never let them start it with starting fluid. Fuel pump should have some nipples on it that the tech can attach a pressure fitting to and hand pump a can and pump fuel in there while you crank key over. First check fuse.

I had same problem. New fuse works for week or two than blow up again. Reason why is electric primer pump is going bad. You can hear its not strong as used to be. More like ZzzzZzZzzz. I installed new one and its working like champ. Yes you can start engine without primer pump but its gonna take some time. If you have ISX and if you gonna install it by your self be prepared to do more work since a lot of EGR are bolted to primer pump. So take your time and right tools. Torx 35 with small 1/4 ratchet and small extension is the tool to take those 4 screws. Just look your new one and where screws are located and you will see how to get to two one the back

This has to be an isx engine and you're priming pump is done I would not suggest doing this yourself if u strip a bolt or one breaks u are going to have major problems

It was a blown up fuse. I was able to locate and replace as you said. Thank you for you advice. But I think it's something more than that because it keeps doing the same thing.

Thank you. It was as you said. Blown fuse. But then after being replaced, it keeps going bad again. I haven't had a chance to take it to the shop yet. I think i'm going to have to.

Yes. Thank you so much. I am having the exact same problem. Checked the fuse, replaced it, it starts to work, the blows up again. I'm planning on taking to the shop. Did you take it to the shop or do it yourself? Do you have any guess on how much this might cost?

I haven't had a chance to get home to take a good look at it. Plus this Chicago weather is making it very difficult to sit and do some work. But i'm going to give it a try.

    Thanks again!

Thank you! So the best bet is to just take it to the shop? Do you have any guess on how much this might cost me?

    Thanks again
