Air Horn and City Horn Not Working VOLVO 670

    Alright so i just purchased a 2005 Volvo 670 Cummins isx 400hp and neither of the horns work. My pressure is at 120ish so not a psi problem and my city horn has no power down to it . I did my homework and searched this forums for others threads and read that there is some sort of VALVE SOLENOID for the HORNS. Can you tell me where that is? the only looking solenoid i found is one my windshield washer fluid and looks like a starter fluid for a lawnmower tractor. Thanks In Advance:biggrin_25514:

    My first guess would be the contact ring beneath the steering wheel since they are both not working

    Two separate problems. The city horn is electric and the air horn is air.

    I would do what the previous poster said and remove the cover on the steering wheel. There should be one wire there. Unscrew it and touch it to ground and that should make the horn beep. Many people put a new steering wheel on and don't buy the horn button kit.

    The air horn you will have to pull down the head liner and check the valve. It may be frozen.

    There's no power going to horn but makes sense since its only on when contract is made via pressing air bag down. The air horn I will check the valve you all suggested

    You are correct that one is electric and one is air. But where you are mistaken is in the fact that on a 2005 volvo the air horn is activated by depressing the center of the steering wheel. This sends electricity to the air solenoid that , in turn, sends air to the horn. BOTH air and city horn get their power through the contact ring in the steering column. So, if neither work, it's possible there is a problem with the contacts. It could be possible too that it's is actually two separate issues

    Okay thats for explaining to me that makes total sense now for me. I will get to work and post pics as necessary wheel I take it apart today after class.

    Got the electric horns to work now just need air one. Any more tip or tricks?

    You may need a helper for this. Depress the air horn button and check that you ar getting power to the air solenoid. If so, then disconnect the airline from the horn and feel for air coming out. If not, then it's somewhere between the horn button and solenoid. That's about as far as I can help from here

    I could not locate the air solenoid. Its not in the headliner as I read a service manual and says its on chassis. But did follow line from horns to a box/air distribution center and did not see any electric connections other than air lines. Also I did feel tip of line going into horns and pressed the horn and no air came out. So its definitely the valve issue since I have 140 psi and all bags are up. My dad says its on a cross member above tranny end and under cab which I say may be that air distribution thingie on the front end of cross member while the ABS unit is on the tail end of cross member. Thanks for y'all help and patience as its fixed little by little
