2012 630 with d 13, 410,000 miles. The davco water/fuel separator keeps filling up and giving me a "check fuel filter" alarm. Eventually, the truck will not pull properly....feels like it is surging. The Volvo rep I spoke with thinks I have an injector problem. I have drained the filter down, and the light will go off for a short time, but comes back on when I pull any kind of grade. The engine just got a new head installed and has been recently serviced. Should I go ahead and replace the Davco filter, or would I be wasting time and money?

What filter are you using the smaller micron ones will fill faster buying fuel at some t/stops, Where are you fueling up?
-
Considering that the davco filter is about $10 at the dealer. I would change it and see what happens
-
If it's filling up, that indicates it's used up.
icsheeple, KB3MMX and double yellow Thank this. -

$10 filter and a 5 minute job, why wouldn't you switch the filter? I have had filters plug up in as little as 1,000 milies after being relpaced due to dirty fuel. It should be changed every oil change at the very least.
Dave_in_AZ, KB3MMX and Riprap Thank this. -
And an injector problem wont throw a fuel filter code...not saying that it doesn't have an injector issue, but the fuel filter code wouldn't be a precursor for it.

What does your filter look like when its removed from filter housing? Are you getting water when you drain housing?
It sounds like dirty fuel and your rep is overlooking the obvious by assuming its your injectors.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
my davco has filled with less than 200 miles plenty of times. other times will last 10,000 miles. I keep 4-5 spare filters at all times & I am home everyday. change your filter, keep changing until no longer needing to change. you have a fuel contaminate problem.
shatteredsquare, Dave_in_AZ and KB3MMX Thank this. -
I had similiar problem, truck was losing power and shaking while accelerating.
Check fuel filter msg came on.
Dealer replaced injectors and cups under warranty.
Truck was ok for few days then problem came back plus truck has hard time starting.
Fuel filter filled up very fast,i had to change it after 5000 miles.
Took it to my mechanic and he replaced fuel filter housing.
Truck felt stronger ang fuel economy improved.
I went to speedco for oil change and now fuel filter is filling faster and truck seems to be losing power again.
Will take it to my mechanic again next weekend for check up.
Its 2012 volvo d13 ishift.
