Planning to buy this 2016 Volvo Vnl780 500hp Ishift eco torque! Pulling UPS loads all over the states with my wife , we are a team ! Right now I own 2005 Vnl 630 D12 with 3 pedals auto tranny II generation! Geting around 7-7.23 MPG with current truck ! After all calculations , fuel savings and money saved on maintenance I think I can say that in long term this is a smart move ! What do you guys and gals think ? I am just trying to justify purchase! Any help would be appreciated!

Outstanding choice ... The freightshaker eco auto is great. Averaging about 8.11 8.35 25000 lbs. Both are solid choices

Thanks scratbandit! I belive(hope) that we can get 8.5 maybe even 9MPG since a lot of time we are coming back either bobtail or with empty trailer! I mean my truck is 10 years old and somehow getting 7.23MPG, the new 2016 got to be better on fuel consumption ! Dont like freightshaker somehow plus Volvo have much more space !

If I had a choice I sure would not buy a Volvo, I would either get a KW and or Pete with a manual transmission. I firmly believe in buying a good truck if your going to buy a truck, buy one that will ot dish out many troubles.

Anyone here with 2013,2014,2015 D13 Ishift? Any problems with the engine , Ishift??? For Those years I think they worked the bugs out ! Friend bought 2013 and the only problems he had was
*front shock(coverd by Volvo) 7 days after one year of purchase
    * Oil pressure sensor(covered by Volvo 2 times) this was into the 2 nd year of ownership
    * Truck towed because engine derate ( SCR , EGR, DPF problem (coverd by Volvo ) but was his mistake because he didnt follow prompts , DEF was low and he was in a hurry! 2 year into the ownership!
    * now has a problem with low battery warning when he sleeps and refrigerator is running on max at night , truck turned of.. They are working on that
For 2½ years and almost 250000 miles I dont think this is a big deal..

If that is what you like, buy it. Depending on where you think you will be running more and avg weight you might consider the XE package. I think it would have been the the better choice for me, certainly not any worse. I usually gross 50-55,000b lbs. My truck has 3.08 rears.

All that being said there's a good chance my next truck will have a manual transmission. I'm just not in love with the I Shift. Its not as smart as they would have you think. If you can drive a truck efficiently, the I Shift won't make you more fuel efficient, it's the improvements in the engine that's doing that. The automatics primarily benefit the inefficient drivers.

I have a 2015 780 XE( Ishift,455hp,2.64) i love it 62k, only problem was a hole in the coolant overflow tank. This is my first Auto, I love it! I came from a 07 670 ISX 13sp. Best decision I made. If you get the XE don't expect to be the first one to the top of the hill. Its built to run slow for fuel efficiency.

Both the D13 and iShift are well developed and a rock solid combo.
It is not uncommon to achieve 8+ MPG on that combo when spec'd and driven correctly.
Are you going for the 2.64 rears like the XE spec?
