Good afternoon my fellow truckers! On my Volvo 780 the low pressure line which runs from the back of the A/C compressor is a combination of sections of aluminum and black rubber tube/ pipes. The rubber section of the line has rubbed against another steel line and has a hole in it causing the freon to escape. The Volvo dealer is telling me they can not be broken in pieces, and that i will have to buy the whole line from the back of the compressor Across the fire wall to the passenger side, but when i looked at it, is connected all the way to the back A/C. That's a long line to replace. Does any one here knows if the rubber part of the A/C line is repairable and how, or if i will have to buy the entire line like the dealer said? Thanks for your time, any help will be very much appreciated. You all have a wonderful day and be safe,

A hose or a/c shop should be able to put a splice in it.

You should have the whole line replaced and system serviced correctly, Seriously!!!

Due to the nature of refrigerant and contaminates.
once a refrigerant line is pierced, broken, rubbed.. any time it has a hole or rupture a few things happen.
refrigerant loss, loss of compressor oil, internal pressures now equalize to pressure Outside.

When this happens your system draws in moisture and contaminants from the outside. This basically pollutes the entire system.

Replacing the line and adding a can of your refrigerant will not fix the situation. Only make matters worse.

Your system needs to be repaired, decontaminated, leak tested, vaccum to the proper inches of mercury below atmospheric pressure. Leak tested again and finally charged properly.

That's the only way to be sure your system will function for a long time.

Do it right and you have no a/c issues, take short cuts and you will bleed dollars like you can't imagine. That compressor itself can set you back lots more than having it done right the first time.

Just my advice. I am a certified hvac tech with epa universal 608 and mvac 609 certifications. Residential and automotive a/c and heat is what I do when I not out here pretending to be a truck driver.

Basically, as I preach, so I practice, do it right the first time so your not spending on a next time.

Remember, it's a dog eat dog world out here just like in the trade, not so hard on the knees and back, just hard on the soul. Haha

I'll be team driving with the wife so hopefully that will help eliminate some of that.. I'm hoping this is a JOB that I can at least enjoy more than what I'm doing now.. I do residential work and I'm to the point I don't like people much lol.. I will be doing most of the night driving so I hope that helps too.

It does help with wife along. My wife rides with me full time, we stay out months at a time. no need to go home as long as she is out here, makes life easier. With cooling season starting at the home 20, we most likely be heading there. Been a long hard winter out here. Time to sweat it out in some hot attics.

Years ago I always carried splice for both hoses, along with clamps, and Freon, and a hose to put Freon in the system. And it saved me money, time, and also sweat.

    A hose can be spliced.

Although some will say, you have to go to the people who work on A/C's to get it done, they just do not know any better.

Years ago... before today's refrigerants. Today "freon" is not in use. there is no "old timering" this stuff these days especially if one wants to use they warranty And not have the "heart" of the system stop beating.
even if he splices the hose. And it holds under pressure. The rest of the service needs to be perform properly. Otherwise, it's all for nothing and he will have worse problems.
