    i have a 2000 volvo with a volvo d12 pre egr engine
when i got the truck when you turn the key on but not starting the pressure shows 90 when you crank it is shows 90
the other day the pressure droppped to 0 then the stop egine came on i stopped checked things out every thing was fine oil level and all was fine
i cranked it up again the stop engine stayed off but had no pressure so i drove it a few miles it seemed ok no rattles or issues so im sure my sending unit is dead
    sorry about the long chat
now my question is this where is the sending unit on a d12 pre egr volvo engine all the volvo dealers dont know they tell me it just in front of the emc bottom corner
wrong its not the i have a cap there no sending unit they tell me it there but its not can someone help me out
snap a picture and post it for me so i can find it
been running the truck for a few day with no problem but real think i need to see my oil pressure
and if i get a manual gauge where can i hook it up in that hole where the cap is right where they keep telling me is where my sencor is
thanks guy for all your help

It should be on driver side of engine behind ecm and right before the starter on the engine block halfway down from head I don't have one this old in the shop to snap a picture

The oil pressure sensor is located exactly at the place where the gentlemen explain to you on the previous post, for the information received from the dealer telling is foward the ECM it's true but for a D12D version only 2002 up to 2007, if your truck is 2000 you have a VED12C version engine.

yes i think it is a ved12 not sure about the c
when i gave them my vin nuber it showed the truck should have a detroit in it
so now im wondering where do i find the engine vin number to see which engine i do have a have 2 book that was in the truck taht is how i found out it was a d12 engine sorry guy i have alwass drove a pete for 20 years this volvo is new to me
any way i did look between the ecm and the started and still nothing it not gonna be behind that plastic cove where all the wires is hide in is it
and also that hole infront of the ecm with the plug cap is that a good place to put a manual guage
but i will double check it in the morningif it not raining to make sure i didnt over look it
thanks guys for all your help

Dave, about your engine version to identify it correctly look at the fuel filter head on LH side of the engine a VED12C have a fuel temp sensor threaded on the filter head and a VED12B don't have this sensor.
Also check at the VIN sticker in the door jam LH at the seven position of the 17 character of the vin, a D-12 engine is identify by the letter (G) and a Detroit S-60 is identify by the letter (R) then you will know where the mistake is come from ?
Also to order the parts on Volvo trucks and engine always use the truck serial number (last 6 digits) the engine serial number is rarely used.

    ( 2 ) engine brakes dont work

( 3 ) my check brakes warning on the tt keep poping up

    (4) my tcs light stays on enven with the rocker switch is off

    (5) check engine on the tt keeps poping up

    (6) MY MIRROR does not work as far as adjusting goes all the fusses are good but they dont work

and im getting 4.5 mpg loaded but around 6 mpg empty is this normal
and it suck going up hill loaded have to keep putting it in the lower gears to climb a hill i use to drive a pete with a 3406 e engine it had a whole lot more get up and go up hills
    well thats it for now
still no thought on where i can screw a manual gauge in yet

temporary u can swap oil pressure sensor and fuel pressure sensor to avoid driving w/o engine protection.

Oil pressure sensor differs a bit, it got temperature probe, so u can see four pins. Fuel pressure sensor is 3 pin, becouse no temperature pin.

D12C, D12D and D13 sensors are interchangable. But D12D has crankcase sensor, that looks like oil pressure sensor, but designed for lower pressure. Do not fit it mistakally, it will fail when u start engine.

Pablo, about the oil pressure sensor if it can help (on North America market) the D12C and the first D12D (up to 2004) use the same oil pressure sensor (big sensor with 4 pins (expensive $275. +/- )
In 2005 D12D comes with smaller Oil pressure sensor and cheaper price too.
A easy way to know which sensor you need is:
The first D12D 2002 used an electrical fuel priming pump up to 2004 and some 2005, after that the priming pump comes manual pump on the top of the fuel filter base.
With the first version of D12D (with electric fuel priming pump) the oil temperature is sent by the oil pressure sensor but on later engine the harness is different and the oil temperature is combine with the oil level sensor in the oil pan.
An engine with Electrical priming pump use the big oil pressure sensor and an engine with a hand priming pump use the little oil pressure sensor (same P/N as fuel pressure sensor)
Also in the Volvo part system for the older engine the system give the two possibility for the oil pressure sensor ( a lot of misunderstanding at the parts dept about that)
