I have coolant leaking from behind the water pump housing. There is a 1/8" - 1/16" space/gap between the water pump housing and block/oil cooler. It seems like it should be flush?

There is a thick rectangle gasket with a metal rectangle frame that seals this area from within the water pump housing. WP_20150419_15_07_45_Pro.jpg

It was installed two weeks ago by a suspect mechanic and recently started leaking again. WP_20150419_01_31_41_Pro.jpg WP_20150419_01_31_59_Pro.jpg

If you look carefully it looks like the leaking gasket is all chewed up. Bad install?

How do you properly install this gasket? Can it be installed with the water pump housing in place?
