It should be on top of the dashboard where your Fuses and Relays are located.

Hi, On Volvo truck the engine D-13 begin in 2008 production and the starter is on the passenger side and the only starter relay is bolted on the side of the starter close to the starter solenoid.
On that engine model the starter relay is feed on side (12 Volts) by the ignition switch and the other side (negative) by the engine ECU.
If your engine is a D12D the starter is on the driver side and the starter relay is bolted on the fire wall (engine side) below the foot valve, the positive side of the relay coil is feed by the ignition switch and the ground of the coil is connected directly on the big ground stud of the starter.
Some starter have the OCP Over Crank Protection it's a switch in serie for ground relay supply to cut the ground of the relay (to stop cranking) if the starter temperature comes to hot.
    Hope this can help.

Hello ben, I need your help on the OCP issue. I have a 2007 VNL with a ISX Cummins & 13 speed transmisson. In a nut shell , my issue is that both wires that are supposed to excite the relay on the fire wall are coming in hot. one is supposed to be hot and the other is supposed to be ground to get the truck to start. Please help me!!!!

Hi, normally on the stater relay on the fire wall (LH) at the little stud, one wire is come from ignition switch (start position) the other little wire is come from the big ground stud on the case of the starter but if your truck is equipped with a (OCP) Over Crank Protection switch then the ground wire is come from the starter main ground then pass throught OCP switch and then back to your starter relay at the fire wall.
When you check on the both side of your relay and see 12 volt probabbly your ground circuit come from the starter big ground stud is open or the OCP switch is open.
I recommand you to remove one little wire on the starter relay at the fire wall then with the ignition switch at start position check from which wire the 12 volts is coming ? the removed wire or the wire who stay connected on the relay then you will know which wire suppose to be ground.
    Hope this can help.
    Ben

Hi I have a 2008 D13 that started giving me a engine derate soot high and when I pulled I to my driveway the truck just shut off, no warning or anything, when you hit the key the dash goes completely out and when you release it the dash comes back on. The display when telling me derate soot high to the time it shut down was only 3 miles. Any suggestions?
