I had this same exact issue you just describe on my kenworth way back. It was the clutch, the pads on the disc were worn out. So to answer your question, I bet your clutch is just plain wore out.

Yes it is the clutch slipping
If you have a solo clutch try pumping to floor 5 times
If its an adjustable clutch remove the cover at the greese fitting
For the throwout bearing and tap the motor around till u see
The odd nut on the back surface using a prybar and a wrench against
