Hi, my fridge on my 2005 vnl780 just doesn't do anything. Light comes on but no cool air or anything. I can't find anyone to fix it at all!! Went to a couple rv and appliance spots but they wouldn't take it on. I have a built in inverter so I can grab a fridge from Walmart but it's hard to find one to exactly fill the spot and I will miss the the matching door on the old one. New oem ones are big$$. Cheapest I found one was close to $960!! Heard stories of guys pulling fridges from junk yards for $100 bucks but those are few and far in between. I'm in Chicago area if anyone has any suggestions on a repair spot, or if anyone has ever replaced it with another fridge using a inverter what kind will fill the area good? I wonder if the matching door skin is remove able on the door?, anyone try that?? I'm up for ideas help!!! Thanks!

I went through the same ordeal. You can get a replacement compressor unit for the refrigerator, I found out through an RV dealership, but the price they want for the system UNINSTALLED is darn near what a dealership wants for a new one! The folks at truckfridge have been saying for years that they were going to have a model to fit the contour of a 780, but never have. A small standard unit will fit in the hole, if you pull the old one out, but you will need to shim the sides with some foam to keep it from dancing around.

You can try contacting Thetford about the price of the replacement parts that you need. They have a diagram of the fridge that matches the 670 and I believe the other one in the 780 as well. They even list the part numbers for the doors and what trim they are. If you decide that its not worth it to get the oem parts, I would suggest going to ENGEL and buying one of their ice chest size refrigerators. I'm sure you could strap it in the passengers seat and you would have plenty of room for milk, eggs, cheese, etc. Its worth a shot, just don't buy it from Amazon or Cabellas. I found it on EBAY for like 900 when on Amazon or Cabellas it was like 12 or 1300. Please note that the Engel is not a thermo-electric cooler but rather a real refrigerator and if you bought a new slide in unit afterwards, you could use the Engel as a freezer so you can have your ice cream sandwiches on the road!

There used to be some on ebay from a place in Ohio. Hard to find them in a search, need the Norcold model number I believe. They were new with no warranty. Approximately $550 to $600. I posted a link when someone else was asking about the same thing Do a search it might turn up.

Remove the fridge and check it on the bench with 12v supply. Does the compressor start? Does the fan start? If they both work and no cold take it to an appliance REPAIR person. The good ones are hard to find but ask around. Also check the power cable on the fridge, mine had a bunch of extra tied up in the back and it had a cheap .05 cent fuse holder that got hot as blazes, heat is resistance, after the fuse holder fridge was only seeing 10v.... removed it and replaced with a good ceramic holder and fuse. Made a big difference.

Pull the drawer out above it screws or bolts (can't remember) top and bottom and it slides out on rails. It fits in tracks bolted to the floor. Easy couple minute job.
