On mine 2005 VNL I recently noticed that mine cruise control wont turn on, when I put mine foot under brake pedal and pull up the cruise control starts to work. it seems like the pedal has too much free play. Is there any adjustment on the brake pedal or the air valve is worn.

There is a little microswitch under the kick panel to turn off cruise control when you brake. It's not hard to adjust you just need to remove the kick panel to get to it. There are 2 under there 1 brake 1 clutch.

He put a as much work into defeating that switch as he would have done to adjust or replace it. Personally when I hit the brake I want the cruise control to kick off.

I don't want to disable mine cruise control safety switch. I want to know if there is any adjustment for free play on pedal or its preset from factory and I have to replace foot air valve.
-
Yes you can adjust the free play in your clutch pedal.
But if it doesn't need it, just adjust the micro switch. -
I don't have problem with clutch pedal but I have problem with brake pedal.

Theres other posts on here and guys have used a bungee cord to pull up on the brake pedal till they replaced the foot brake assembly. Hope this helps . I hate driving with out CC

Cruise and engine brake are connected to the clutch and brake switches, so check them first.
Not sure on the Volvo's, but if either of those are plunger switches, it may jest need to be pulled out, the plunger pulled all the way out, and reinstalled.

Ok, I'm going to start a thread on this, You will need to go to a automotive supply house, get you an assorted bag or box of the smallest bungie cords you can find, the ones I'm talking about when they are not stretched they are about 8 inches hook to hook, the bungee itself is about a 1/4" in dia. these are little, I had this problem and I fixed it with this trick, Put one end around the steering shaft that the steering rod goes through, and hook it to the bungee and take the other hook and hook it to the brake peddle not on the pad but the lever where it comes from under the dash as close to the pad without you hitting it with your foot and knocking it loose. Now if this is happening with the clutch peddle do the same thing except run it up under the dash to something strong like the dash frame or something this should fix your brake and clutch switch issues and let everything tun better. And is cheaper then replacing these switches till you can get the switches or into a shop to have them do it.

The brake pedal free play is not adjustable, if your pedal lever or bushing is not wear you will have to replace the foot valve because the piston of the foot valve stay in contact with the brake pedal all the time and sometime after awhile the piston inside of the foot valve didn't return at is original place and generate more free play on the brake pedal. . .
Note: Often the micro switch is installed only with two clips from factory and come loose, i recommand you to install the micro switch with two little bolts.
BenHardworker Thanks this.
