    Ok,
Today is move-in day for the 780. As I get settled, I will share the experience and pics with all of you. Obviously the Volvo is not for everyone, but I am doing this for my family (home every week) and for the bank account. I am a former 900L owner and just got back on the road after working local for 3 yrs.

    Move-In Day:
Going to go pick up my new for me 780.

Truck is very purple. Purple on the outside and purple leather on the inside. If I was from Baton Rouge, this truck would be perfect.

All went well on the move-in, swapped my XM account over to the truck, which had XM built into the Volvo reciever. Not real happy with the reception and want to try and get my Wilson XM Ant wired in tomorrow. A couple little things I need to look at, had to put a bungee cord over the drawers above the fridge, the handles on both were toast. No big deal, I also noticed the idiot sensor for the fog lamps keep yapping at startup, and ofcoarse those lights do not work either. But overall...not too bad of a truck. Love the work station, My wife tried to make the bed on the top bunk, I am going to give that a try and see how I like it. The biggest problem I can see is the possibility of busting the twins on the ladder if I try to jump down.

Has anyone tried to run a desktop computer in a 780? I am thinking of adding a small display moniter to the top of the dash to use for navigation purposes. Would be a easy clean and secure install. Also considering forgetting the TV and just going with my computer, then a wireless keyboard and mouse. The biggest question is what the impact from road vibration will have on my hard drive. Thoughts to ponder. I could just go with a laptop, but I really do not like that bulky stand over the pass seat. Sitting down at the table has a much better apeall to me. Especially if I can find GPS software that automatically re-routes. Have to thijnk about all that.

hyper- get yourself some screw-in antenna posts for your Volvo (they are available at most truck stops) and some Blue Locktite. The posts replace one of the Torx- head screws that hold the mirrors to the doors, and give you a good place to mount a good antenna for your CB (and your XM antenna). The VNL has a splitter box (buried behind the dash) that allows the radio and CB to share one antenna (at least the last Volvo I drove did; it was a VNL670) and it will totally screw with your CB getting out. Once I put on the perch, I put on a Wilson Fiberglass whip and my little Uniden worked perfectly.

As for the laptop vs. desktop, I don't know. I thought the trucks with the workstation had a fold-down bed that could be laid down, once the table and chairs were folded up. If so, maybe you don't have to risk busting your two best friends?!?! LOL!

I went to that little junction box in the dash that both antenna go to and cut one loose. Then routed it straight to the CB. Helped reception a lot. As or the desktop PC set it on some closed-cell foam rubber. This will absorb the nastiest of the road shock and help your hard-drive survive. I run Co-pilot 9 with my GPS antenna out on the mirror. I mounted a 19" LCD over the passenger seat with a bracket on the lip of the shelf that runs around from side to side. I wanted something I didn't have to squint at to see when I'm in heavy traffic. Just make sure that it is above your line of sight to the passenger window or the DOT boys will have something to say about you blocking your vision. If you put a tuner card in your PC you won't even have to give up tv and a dvd drive let's you watch movies all on one system. I may be a redneck.......but I'm a high tech redneck.

As far as the desktop goes you can use solid state hard drives as well vs the foam, solid state drives use memory card technology and don't have the moving parts so there's nothing that can be knocked out of alignment inside
