I can understand your friends frustration. You go straight and still get your past used against you. Understand, there are few positions opening up and a lot of drivers applying so they can be picky. Recently a terminal had 75 prospects and made it down to 17 finalists. After testing, all were turned down by the safety dept. Tell your friend that there are other great driving jobs out there with smaler companies. You just have to dig and ask other drivers to find them.

Chewey, you sound like a very bitter person. Might I suggest some female companionship??
The vast majority of what you have been posting is not true. You post it today, as if it is fact today, when it is not. Meetings on the cell phone policy stopped at my DC also. I know, because I have not been to it yet. I suggest you get a job at another trucking company so you can appreciate how good of a trucking job Walmart is. Fact is, most of the bitter ones don't remember how bad it is out there. Unfortunately, there are bitter ones everywhere.
BTW, appx 1000 applications at my DC, and 8-10 hired (I only know my batch, which was 5). Yes, it is incredibly hard to get on with Walmart. Yes, you have to be squeaky clean and have a lot of experience. After that, you have to be HONEST about everything, as that is the most important thing to them. It has to tell you something when the only way a DC hires, is when people retire. Yes, for the most part, Walmart is your last trucking job. I know it will be mine.
To those looking to get on, keep trying. It really is worth it. When was the last time that you were always treated with respect?? When was the last time that any little thing that was wrong with your truck or trailer was fixed immediately, or you were put in other equipment?? When was the last time that you got paid for everything you did, while running completely legal with a full 2 days off every week?? When was the last time your terminal manager asked you how things are going, if you have any questions, if you are happy, or if you needed to talk about anything?? When was the last time anyone above you, at your company, actually gave a care about you?? This may not be the perfect job, but it is as close as you are going to get in trucking, and I came from what many would consider to be a pretty good trucking job. This one just reinforces how bad my last one was. Lets just say that my blood pressure is nice and low, and I am more relaxed than ever. Plus, my family gets to see me more than they have in years.RailFanRick, born&raisedintheusa, drozzer69 and 1 other person Thank this. -

If you don't have a job...jump on the first opening. If you have a wife and kids and want to put them through college(god bless you) but are stuck in a low paying job with no hope of advancement and are spending 60 days on the road...open a new window right now and go to the website and apply. Got three ex wives with kids, a bank note and a girlfriend who are all 3 months overdue...take that gun barrel out of your mouth and get an application in right now. But...if you have a job where you are treated right(they are out there...besides walmart) , dont have to worry about equipment, dont get hassled about performance on the computer, are not threatened at every turn with freewill discharge, are not given false shrift and concern, get home on weekends and holidays, see your kids and wife regularly and make a decent wage...better think twice about coming here. You are a senior hand...the newbies may never see an assigned truck, regular days off, good stock prices, profit sharing or a SAFETY DEPT BENT ON REVENGE. (dont be sure about the safety office backing down..may be some reloading after the legal dept pointed out laws in some states...time will tell) There are ugly spots on this snow white( and you know it) and these new guys need to see them before they give up good jobs for the manna from walmart heaven. If you paint this hulking giant as the only good job in the world, you are doing them a serious dis service! Give them all the facts..not hype. Dont drink the kool aid...this is a job...not a way of life...treat it as such, before you crash and burn in disappointment.
And this lady you want to fix me up with is who??? Guys dont you hate it when someone pimps you out? Not easy being a sex symbol..trust memje Thanks this. -
I guess I have to feel sad for you, for the DC that you work out of. It sounds like a pretty awful place, and nothing like where I am working.
See, where I work, you have to work pretty darn hard to get fired................. harder than at most trucking jobs. Here, we have regular schedules and are not jerked around. In other words, I know my days off. The safety manager is a hell of a nice guy, and is who I did my driving test with. All of the coordinators treat everyone with respect, and are a bunch of great folks. Our Transportation Manager is also a great guy who will remember your wifes name, and your kids names, and will ask about them............... with genuine interest.
We must be working for different companies, you and I. See, the company you work for has little good, and a lot of bad. The one I work for has a lot of good, and a little bad.
I don't remember anyone saying this is the perfect job. There is no such thing. Nor have we said that there are no other good trucking jobs out there. However, I will tell you this, the good ones are few and far between, and you have to wade through the sea of excrement to get to the good ones. The issue at hand is, you have nothing good to say about the job. You try to disguise that by saying you are trying to keep it real, and tell folks the whole story. That is BS. Your whole store is embellished heresay and jumping to conclusions. Frankly, I wonder if you actually work for Walmart.mje Thanks this. -
