This is my first post on this website. I see this is an old question, it might help drivers wanting info on driving for WalMart. There are several programs at WalMart. Work 5 days off 2 days. Work 6 days off 3 days. Work 5 days and off 5 days. The programs that offer going home every night take seniority and you would have to know going in that not a lot of WalMart drivers quit or get fired, therefore it takes a while to move up. WalMart is a job,,it has a lot of positive things . Yes you can make good money BUT only if you work 14 hours a day , This isn't a job that you leave the DC put your cruise on stroll for 11 hours and shut down and go to sleep. You may have some days like that but the majority is in traffic...

the programs vary from each DC, we just had a driver get a day cab program that has been employed less then 6 months. Have another running opposite of him on the day cab been here less then a year.

so yes you can get these spots with low seniority. How many driving jobs do you set the cruise and stroll for 11 hours? Most sit around for hours waiting for a load, to get loaded or unloaded correct ?
We do not sit around we stay moving, drop and hook and always dispatched ahead of time if you keep your time updated.

Why would you offer that up,just curious. There are several places that a guy even with only two years of experience can make better than half our wage. Not every Walmart driver is in the 100k+ club,if you want a life and you have some time in I think 80-90k is a good figure. Thats with alot of time off and not running very hard. Besides in another year you can be a real Walmart driver, they may even lower the standards more by then.

I think I read something about a possible lease purchase program somewhere around here.

Ok well, half on the high side. I'll make $50k this year delivering Walmart groceries (and it is a hustle to make that!). It is a more or less local job too so, not bad for my meager 2 years of experience, but not great either; I do want more. I just got the impression from reading about WM that despite a clean driving record, I won't qualify because of my work history: before trucking I worked for my self 'under the table' as a landscaper for six years and that would mean, to the the critical eye of WM, an unacceptable work history.

If I'm wrong or you have some words of encouragement, then do please speak on ...

You're probably right. But try to keep the same job for 7-10 years, keep your nose clean, keep your driving record clean and you'll get on. Just be patient.

With all thats going on in Bentonville your better off to set your sights on another goal. Your work history may or may not affect at other employers.

My advice to a guy in your position would be to buy a cheap money making truck and lease it on with a company.

Amen to this:) One thing I want to interject...there is some serious talk to ending all of these "program" runs and put everyone on what we call regular running( 5 days 5 nights...) but it is not a done deal yet...just be aware. It seems our new computer dispatch system, known as quintig, is not able to keep up with all the different go home times...but it also cannot keep up with breaks, laydowns, traffic, etc. It is easier to mess with the drivers lives than fix the program I suppose:biggrin_25526:
