driving for walmart

    Talked to a Walmart driver yesterday and he said you have to have a clean record and 250,000 to 300,000 accident free/ clean

    I did a little walmart for black friday a couple years ago...For me, as an independent contractor, I ran out of NW Arkansas...I was back at my assigned DC pretty much every night, maybe 3 or 4 during the 2 weeks I did it I stayed at a Walmart store. So, I could have been "home" almost every night if I lived in the area. I'm sure WM drivers get home at least 3 or 4 nights a week, if not more, but as a truck driver, are required every now and again to stay out on the road.

    most wal-mart drivers go home about once during the week.. they don't always return to their home DC... they are assigned to a certain region from there home DC...

    You can go to drive4walmart.com and sumit an app.I can tell you that you will be paid hub miles,wait time,break down,down time for weather,sleeper time,2 weeks vacation then 3 after 7 yrs. 4 safety days a yr,2 personal days a yr,and 6 holidays. I believe there are 3 or 4 dc's that are hiring extra or program drivers.Don't ask me to explain each dc is alittle different. But a sample would be 5on 5off days, there is one with 3 drivers on 2 trucks you work 5 days in one truck off 2 work 7 off 7. Depending on the program work flow you can expect to earn 50 to 80k.

    In trucking, nothing good lasts forever:biggrin_25513: Although still a good company to drive for...things are going downhill quickly. To get on now, you will have to wait for years on the extra board(slip seating) to get on full time. The pay system has been rearranged to benefit the company more. New rules and write ups are the order of the day. (Must enter and exit the truck proper, no eating, no riders, etc) Electronic monitoring means you get written up if you hit the brakes too hard or take a turn too fast or speed...you must also follow their own gps. Calling your dispatcher will get you written up...just do, don't question. You must wash your truck weekly for free and soon you must fuell it yourself for free. Logging is electronic...errors are terminal..no discussion or qulifying circumstances. Above the federal law...walmart has banned all cell phone usage....for business or personal. Soon may ban CB's:biggrin_25524: Fourteen hours of racing against the electroncally monitored clock for 5 or 6 days at a time( no napping or lunch) and it is getting harder, with multi drop loads, to get many miles. Still if you can stomach this and worse..you wil find this job rewarding. The retirement and health packages will soon be gone. (this is everywhere probably) I feel they may be running the price of business up to have an excuse to contract everything out to private contractors. This should be interpeted to mean no long term plans should be made with thiscompany:yes2557: Retirement...where is thy sting? :biggrin_25523:

    you make it sound terrible at wm. you said you are racing against the clock no nap or lunch. tell me what company is exempt from the 14 hour rule. no one has told me no riders and i do drive for walmart. its true you have to wash the truck. years ago it was washed when we went home. but how hard is it to drive through an automatic truck wash. at my dc it takes 7 minutes. they do want us to follow the gps but since day one we were also told you are still driving the truck. i have been asked why my miles were over and i always said i went the way i felt was safe for me. end of discussion. several years ago when the pay was changed and at my dc every driver was given a print out of what what their pay was the year prior and what it would be on the new scale. with the new pay i would have made $2500.00 more under the NEW package. they have not banned cell phones. buy they did say not while driving. the electronic logs are not terminal at our dc. check them before you approve them and the are corrected. they do monitor hard breaking. so far i havent set it off. also no one has even talked about no cb radios. i agree things have changed but its not that bad. 100% no touch freight. good equipment. furnished uniforms and good pay. it ant all bad driver

    Are you allowed to talk on a cell phone using a bluetooth ??? ie using a Blue Parrot headset??? If the pay has been changed, how much are drivers making 75K-100K??? That would still be worth making the change, from my current carrier, where I am making 60K..Seriously, is the word now that driving for Wal-Mart sucks??? Come on, this is my future dream job...
