I understand that they do not hire new drivers, but what about us old timers? I am over 60.
I have worked at my present company for 9 years and I am not getting the $ I need. I will loose my 3 weeks vacation, but I would be home for 2 days, of which I am not presently. Some weeks I am lucky to get 1 day off at home, and all that away time does not mean great pay.
do they hire older drivers?

If you are an old timer with a great long term safety record and plenty of safe miles.................... you bet. There is no such thing as too much experience at Walmart Transportation.
Unless you work an extended week (only when real busy), you will ALWAYS have your full 2 days off, every week.
I used safety days (every safe quarter) to take a vacation my first year. This year (my second), between vacation, safety days and deferred holidays, I have more available time off.................. paid at full ADP.............. than I had after 7 years at my X job (where I had to use 2-3 vacation days to make up for one paid day, as the vacation pay was so poor).Buzzard2157 Thanks this. -
For many years the demographic favored by Wal mart when it came to drivers was the older and more experienced the better. There were alot of us that came from other jobs that we had retired from or were real close. Three years ago I was told directly by our HR manager that going forward the private fleet would be actively recruiting younger less experienced drivers. The thinking behind this was that a younger driver has a longer shelf life and Bentonville was growing tired of guys coming in and working less than ten years. It made no sense to me but now that I see whats been going on since then its all pretty clear.
Do yourself a favor and take the time to really study the threads in this forum. We all have our opinions but facts and numbers beat opinions everytime. The legal department back in Bentonville has declared war with the drivers, the lack of trust and respect has greatly declined and good guys are being shown the door for things that would have never been an issue in years gone by. The new guys coming in love the job because most have never really had a good job,the money and the butt kissing are worth more than trust and respect.
The good thing about Walmart is that seniority really means nothing. If you want your own truck the wait can be years at some DC's the exception is program tractors that are shared with usually two other drivers. As a new driver without a program its slip seat city, moving two to three times in a five day week is not uncommon. You will be driving a guys truck whos on time off often it will be full of his crap, think of living in someones hall closet. There are rules about what a driver is supposed to leave in the way of open space for another driver but they are not always enforced. Its not the Walmart it once was but for a guy looking to finish out his career it has some advantages just be aware.Last edited: Apr 16, 2014

Wal-Mart does hire older drivers. One of our drivers was hired when he was 62. Talked to him this week and he is still doing fine at WM (he is now 78) and drives Week on Week off. He is working because he wants to, not because he has to. He also has SS and a few union pension. (So much for the rumor that WM won't hire you if you have ever been a union member)

Thank you everyone. All I can do now is wait.

Chewey Thanks this.

No go. They said I do not meet their minimum requirements for Hazmat endorsement? What are their Hazmat requirements? I currently have Hazmat endorsement with my current company.

Are you self certified for interstate? We haul hazmat but not enough to be placarded 95% of the time. That would be the only thing I could think of.
