I'm strongly comsidering putting in an app could someone answer a couple quick questions on how the process works ??
1) do you apply to a specific DC or (if accepted) do they offer you a position at the closest one to your residence that has an opening ??
2) I'm guessing its all forced dispatch or do they offer a choice or choices ??
3) the 3 DC's closest to me are Marcy, Tobyhanna, and Pottsville...What are the main freight lanes out of each ??
I would prefer to hear from current and past Walmart drivers only not someone who thinks they know how it works..

Tall Mike, I can answer 2 of your questions - 1st, you apply to a specific DC, but you can apply to as many as you want - but do it in the order of preference - if Marcy is the closest to you, apply there first and so on. As it happened with me, I applied to several DC's and got calls on 3. I simply told recruiting which 1 I wanted - the 1 that was closest to home.
2nd, I wouldn't use "forced" to describe the dispatches. Your FLW -first load of the week - is driver preference. So you get to chose your first load of the week. As I have said in other posts, after that you are another truck in the Walmart system. You could get an empty, go to a vendor, and take that into another DC. You might run stores out of that DC for a day. It really depends on the needs of the company.
Your other question I cannot answer as I do not run up there. NYVET, a major contributor on the board would really be a great help on that one as he runs in that area. There are others here but I cannot recall their names here. I hope I was able to help with some of your questions. Good luck!!Tall Mike Thanks this. -

Marcy and Toby are gm dc's that would be my first choices then Pottesville being a grocery dc. your going to run mostly pa,nj,md, ct,ma ,me and up state ny, you will also run long island if pulling out of Johnstown or toby.

Don't take that to mean the industry is lazy in pretrips. Any driver worth it's salt will pretrip that tractor trailer so much you will know it better than your wife. So if something is off, it's off. -
