WM Generic we don't want you, have a nice after life replies? Ha Ha! Its just a way for a company this size to pass the uneasy I cant hire you onus back in limbo land. Apparently they seem to come off as caring, funny what a corporate logo on a piece of paper can do for the mindset. Its just business my man, their prerequisites must not be all that stringent, based on what seen operating the 'green' trucks

Here's the basic thought, get in with the asst. operations mgr, the day to day person that does the field observations on the drivers. This guy or gal has more to say on hiring than the regional, cause they are the one responsible for signing off on your training. At Waste a driver is certified for every piece of equipment operated, that simple. These persons have to ride with you, and then sign in the thick black book each driver carries, its like your company license to operate. If you are not certified, no solo operating allowed.

I just got my class b cdl permit today. I have no experience driving anything any bigger than cargo/moving trucks, but a friend of mine is a manager at the local IESI transfer station here in Bowie (where i live) and he said if i wanted to work as a driver at IESI i need to get my cdl permit. He told me that they are always needing residential drivers. I was needing some info from any current or former IESI drivers about how hard it is to get this particular job. I mean, do they discriminate against newbies like me, or are they open to training unexperienced drivers? I have a couple of things on my record (a dui and a possession charge) that are over a decade old...will that automatically disqualify me? Ive beenclean and sober for the past 10 years, so that isnt even who i am anymore. I really need this opportunity to help get my life out of the financial hole that im in. If anyone could help me with some info or suggestions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'll try to get this quick to you,

1, Talk 1st about how you intend to help them maintain a high completion rate per hr worked
this is charted daily and wkly in office
This is how mgrs get there bonus cash, so be there on this
2, Only then explain how you intend to help their location maintain a high safety standard rating
You aren't expected to chatter a whole lot, so don't!
You have your own confidence about what have done, use that as you go for this!!
Be cool, and don't chatter more than have to!!

Waste is 1st about production, and then about safety in these interviews, despite what ever anyone says!! Let them here this, and in this order in your words,

    Good Luck

Thanks widesky for the info but I didn't get to it till late. lol yea they are nothing but safety. They also have cameras in all trucks, which can be good, but I'm not a fan of them but I will not let them run me away. I felt the interview went well and the manger did also. The position is a container delivery driver, There is lots more then just picking up and droping off containers, you get to do minor repairs and all so it wouldn't be repetive work. I am now waiting for a letter or phone call.

I currently work as a retail clerk in Kansas, a right-to-work state. I will soon be going onto my sixth year with the company, earning upper SINGLE digit wages, plus health insurance and a 401(k) plan. I am very THANKFUL to have this job. The point is, right to work states tend to have lower wages and salaries than union shop states for identical jobs.

Do everything in your power to learn, grasp, comprehend, and become CERTIFIED on everything possible. The whole idea is to become and remain SOLO.

    Good luck to you.

right-to-work states should be known as right-to-work-for less states!
