I live Upstate near Geneva and Waterloo landfills. Mostly see MBI trucks, but do many owner ops haul trash out of these landfills? Anyone know someone or a broker and also how much are they paying per ton.

    Thanks

Riccelli Enterprises out that way brokers out work, not sure if they are still big into the trash hauling though. Mark Tully I believe was the guys name I spoke with there awhile back. He called me looking for hopper trailers. Me may be able to give you more info if they dont.

Ok thanks....last I heard Riccelli was bought out buy MBI. I see Riccelli hauling rock, but never trash. Are there places to pickup trash outside the city? The farther away from the city the better.

any idea on the rate per ton? Of course it would depend on where your hauling from.

I don't know much about the tonnage rates. Every now and then I see some private companies pulling County Waste walking floors. Not sure if they lease with them or maybe just purchased some of there old equipment.

It depends where your coming from and whether you are paying the tipping fee (transportation and Disposal T&D) or just hauling . Rates I know of are anywhere from 35 ton not out of NYC, to 42 a ton coming out of NYC or Long Island .This is just the hauling rate ,which is going to involve tolls and more traffic. I heard Riccelli is getting back into trash after his non compete contract runs out with MBI (was told this by one of his drivers)and I just heard the other day that MBI sold out to some investment group.Trash is like anything else ,the more direct you are with the work ,without all those hands in the middle sifting the profit the more you'll make . The problem with trash and demo hauling is the amount of low level drivers who do the work and work for low wages because it is pretty easy work . I drive for a private company and make 30% of the load, which I make $360 a day.,loaded one way, and home for dinner every night. Many drivers do the same work for $200 a day for a 14 hour day.Trash is brutal on your equipment . Between the weight ,going off road into muddy landfills filled with nails and debri which destroys tires and other things and then there is the ever present DOT which knows it's like shooting fish in a barrel when they hangout in front of the landfill a couple of days a week and write tickets for flat tires, broken springs, leaky loads, ripped tarps, bald tires, etc. Many trash haulers run junk equipment and run loaded at night to try and sneak into the landfill parking lot before DOT shows up. sometimes you feel like your in some South American third world country when your at the land fill, pretty much like if you've ever run the ports. You can make money in hauling trash if you drive the truck and have direct work with a good place place to haul out of. There are too many ways to destroy a truck when you hire drivers and pay them by the load going into land fills and loading out of crap holes in NYC or the 5 Boros swamped with trucks and long wait times to load. We're lucky to be contracted to a private facility that pays well, and appreciates the few haulers who haul out of there and only uses a larger company to handle the overflow . The owner of the place I haul out of has become a friend ,and his wife runs the office. It's pretty nice to hand in an invoice and get a check 10 minutes later with a smile. I just haul Demo ,but I've hauled regular trash too,and I much rather haul Demo and not deal with the nasty smelly ,leaky loads .
