How was it working for the Jones Brothers, I will be looking for a company to work for in about 4 years. Trying to get bills paid off here in texas and then move to Sanders or Lincoln county Montana. Driving a bottom dump right now.

This thread is four years old, but from what I've heard around town, Jones drivers end up sitting around a little bit. This is just hearsay though. You'd have to talk to a former or current driver, and I don't know any. Jones will cover your training with a commitment.

There's also Decker, Jim Palmer(or whatever it is now), Double W, and W/S in town. I used to hear good things about W/S but not so much lately. There's all types of info about that here. Decker either built or is in the process of building a better terminal in Missoula and were lookng for drivers a bit a go. Double W and Jim Palmer require experience. I don't know about Decker. Milktanker, who freqents this site often, worked for System Trans out of Spokane when I spoke to him last. They may be worth checking out too. I talked to Milktanker once on the phone, and he was pretty cool. Messege him if you want info about the area from a knowledgeable trucker.

Sanders county is awesome. I love Plains. It's an under-appreciated part of Montana with great people. It doesn't get the moneyed people like Polson, Livinston, or some of the Bitteroot. Lincoln county is cool, but I wouldn't recommend living there fulltime. Libby and Troy has an asbestos problem, and people are getting all types of cancer up there. Missoula is cool and sucks at the same time. We got a lot to do, but a lot of the state's losers flee to Missoula once they either fail, get arrested, or get run out of their home towns. These losers steal things all the time, so make sure your rig or personal vehicle is secure and free of valuables if you plan to leave it overnight, but your physical safety shouldn't be much of an issue out here. Best of luck

Thats awesome, thanks for taking the time to reply. I looked into that asbestos issue in Libby and got all the details on it and their lung cancer average is actually below National Statistics for like size towns. Regardless thanks again for your input and still love Sanders and Lincoln County definitely where I want to hang my hat.

    No prob.
    Just a word of warning:

The locals may not see you in the most positive light at first, but they can warm up to you with a little effort or the right personality.

Since the 80s relatively wealthy out-of-staters came in, bought huge swathes of land, fenced them off from hunting, increased property values, increased taxes, and slowly changed the character of the place. Then developers subdivided farm land and forests into McMansions and McCabins, selling the "Montana" experience, destroying the experience of living in Montana by turning it into the burbs. Make sense?

While Missoula is quite different from the rest of the state, the effects are similar here. Residents from other parts of Montana and the rest of the country are snatching up property and driving up values to levels beyond what a large-sized chunk of locals can afford. Nothing personal. Throw in stiff competition for jobs, since most of few resource extraction, timber mills, and factories went under, and you have some desperate people. We know most new people are cool, just wanting to live in a state unlike anywhere else in the country, but some bad apples and circumstances beyond your control may have turned the locals against newcomers.

I'm not against you moving here. Just know there is some background info about moving to western Montana.

    Rooster903 Thanks this.
