I've been following many of the threads about W/S. Overall it seems like a good company.
Can you eventually work your way up where you don't have to unload furniture? I can see a few years of that being quite rough on an older driver.
Also looking back on your training, do you feel it might have made it easier to pick-up on everything with a few weeks OTR with a trainer? You all seem to have done fine without it, but I'm just curious.
    Thanks

a trainer would have avoided plenty of stupid things i have done...but you learn either way haha. common sense goes a long way as well as knowing when to just ask someone for help.

furniture isnt THAT bad...for the most part you dont really have to unload it.

I have one, hope it's not being to nosie. What kind of extra pay do you adverage a week on layovers, detention, drop pay,and any other pay besides mileage. I still can't make up my mind between watkins & shepard, and kllm. You all seem to realy like watkins & shepard.

I notice that most of the furniture loads seem to be in the east. What makes up the western US loads?

Well I'm 45 I walk with a gimp and I climb in and out of my truck a little differently all due to a long ago back injury, when I get out of the truck and the consignee see the fall out of the truck, they figure we better help this guy, the rules are that we tailgate the furniture, I have done probably 25 stops where there was unloading involved and all but I'm trying to remember probably 2 of them stood there waiting for me to get in the truck and get their stuff out, lot of the rime it is carpet and most all have a forklift and a pole and away it goes, I was up in Weed Ca. Last week and the guy got 3 rolls the first 2 were light and easy the lzst one he had ro pull off with his truck into the back of his truck then ne backed back into the trailer and pushed it all the way into his truck, these guys know we are not their florr hands and they know we don't unload stack uncrate and polish this stuff, after my 90 days are up I'm going to ask to do drop and hook and leave these crazy backs and multi stops to American Trucker he loves it. I hope this helps.

Grab an MT(empty) trailer go to one of many Bud locations drop the MT and pull a loaded one out, take that MT up tp Great Falls Mt.(the state)unloaded by consignee, travel 3.2 miles:biggrin_25514: back in @ General Mills and get loaded as fast as you can sign the paperwork, take that down to LA unload and wash sleep and repeat. Pretty easy drop and hooks out here, for example right now I'm looking at 3200 miles thhis week and I have yet to touch a piece of freight, I took an MT to Roadrunner in LA on my way to Kansas City where they will unload it, take it up to Neb. For a broker load going to SC then probably to Conover and grab a loaded teailer back to Santa Fe Springs and then head towards Phx for my HT to be a daddy!!!!!

Tn that is a good question, I don't see as much of that, I don't sit I run and run hard, I get the stop pay and it is somewhere between $5.00 & $25.00 a stop, I run the miles, I would say jump on board here go to Missoula or Conover for 10 days be assigned your own truck and away you go, no trainer BS these trucks are small enough with one person in them let alone 2, if they have any question that you may not cut it out here they will let you know, but looking back I wouldn't do it any other way, I hope to stay here for a long time, as long as the miles are good i'll stay.

I'm seeing quite the mixture, paper products from Lewiston to Denver, talc from Montana to Indiana, just completed a 4 drop animal feed load from Spokane to Montana. Picking up a flour load here in Montana going to Alabama. They run a lot of tire loads from Washington to California.

Exactly, I hope the variety will keep us running during the slow period@ the beginning of the year, I don't see any slowdown in their invites to orientation.

I would like to say here that when you go to orientation that you are not hired yet, they have a good idea that they want to hire you but the goose is not in the bag until they give you the tax forms and tell you what truck you will be assigned to. I see guys saying they are hired and invited... bla bla, nope not so quick sparkie!!:biggrin_25513:
