I'll just jump in here for a moment if Spirit will allow me. He should.....He sits directly behind me in the classroom.

Well what a week. Learning in the W/S enviornment and receiving instruction from their two incredible guys has ben eye-opening to say the least. I've come away from the first week with a profound disappointment in my CDL school!!

I certainly understand the end game for schools is having you pass a CDL written and practical exam, however, the driving techniques learned at these schools seem to have no real world application. The methods of shifting and overall vehicle control taught to us these past 5 days has been a 2 step process.

    1. Debrief and unlearn the past 5-8 weeks of your life at CDL School.

    2. Become a student of a true system of shifting, braking, and vehicle handling. (Who woulda thought a 78,000 LB rig would act a little different than the empties at the schools!)

I truly wonder why W/S buttoned up their school a few years ago.

I won't hijack the thread any further as Spirit took it upon himself to get this up and running. He's a heck of a driver now as well. I'm sure he'll be a great asset to the company.

    day 1 week 2...
Sorry for not doing more updates, but keeping up the image of being "a heck of a driver" is taking its toll.. lol...
Thanks for the compliment Becker... your no slouch, as your mountain driving test proved...
Feel free to dive in and add comments as you see fit. You have a level head on your shoulders, and know just as much as I do about whats going on here...

I thought I had time to spend on here tonight, but I just realized I screwed up my log assignment, so now I gotta go redo that... lol I WILL try and get on here for an hour or so and fully update this...

Total miles divided by speed limit minus 10% = hours driving...etc...
    Fun, isn't it?

One of the guys in our class handed in his log-book assignment showing he was averaging 103 mph between two destinations. Guess it had something to do with the governor or tail wind.

We went 7 for 7 in our class meaning none of us washed out or were asked to leave. Now we are on day 8. We've got to prove our backing abilities do a couple of additional log-book scenarios and hopefully get our truck assignments at the end of the week.

I'm looking forward to posting on the W/S what's your 20 thread and meet some fellow drivers along the way. I know I'll have some questions out there and it would be nice to have an experienced driver to talk to when in need.

no Jet...it aint "fun"..lol. but the mistakes can end up with some humorous situations... such as the
"Magic truck" Becker is talking about...
And no... the guy who did that is NOT going to live it down any time soon.. :biggrin_25519:

Hmmm... we were supposed to do the final drive testing today, but the weather took a bad turn... started with a dust storm, and ended with rain, thunder, and Lightning... Eh, its Montana... Dont like the weather? just wait 10 minutes... it was Bright and sunny when I went to get dinner.
Hopefully we will get that done tomorrow, along with the last couple of things we need, and that will be it...
A night without homework and study?!?!? GASP!!!! whatever am I gonna do?... oh yeah.. post here, then go to bed early! lol

I definitely will 2021. Most of us are getting our truck assignments tomorrow (Thursday). Others struggling with log books and recaps may be sent out with a mentor for a week or so. We'll let you know.

After training is complete you will have a meet & greet with pretty much the entire staff. Sometime over that weekend you will be taken to wherever your truck is and sent out into the world. Your first few loads will probably be fairly easy ones. You will be given plenty of time to handle it, so just take your time and ask other drivers for advise if needed on the spot.
