One of my favorite runs. Good miles, easy drive. As you roll up the narrow campus road keep wide to keep your tandems off the grass. After the last sharp right turn it's the next left. A "little" tight so stay as far right as you can on the campus road. No big deal. At first, the receiver on the left looks rather tight but it's actually a pretty easy back and it's not a blind side so that's good...lol

Last time I was there I was talking with one of the bakery workers offloading the trailer. I asked what they made there and he gave me a case of the bread. Nine loafs of really great bread.

Unloading time will vary with how much room they have on the dock. Sometimes I was out in 30 minutes. Other times it took hours. Good luck and be safe!

Thanks for the great tips. I will write those down.

Im guessing I will be heading back to Helena to return the trailer too. When I got the QC they called it the M&M trailer, if so, 4400+ miles aint bad.

I seem to be missing the really bad weather except for when rolling through Peoria, IL (I used to live there). As soon as I hit city limits it poured so bad I couldnt see out the windshield with the wipers on high. A lot of people stopped under the overpasses to let it by, good thing I know the highways or else I would have been stuck there too. Im now in Smartsburg, IN and will complete the run tomorrow. I started to doubt myself on whether I was going to make it on time but putting 2 600+ mile days behind me helped out a lot.

Well, I made it with a ton of time to spare. Im going to see if they will let me deliver early. I got to experience going up a hill at 25mph and after the first couple I stopped smashing my foot to the ground, no matter how hard I pushed it didnt go any faster.

    jomar68 Thanks this.

I think Im starting to get the hang of this driving. My load today was from Baltimore, MD to Wilkesboro, NC and except for getting screwed up in Baltimore the trip was enjoyable. I missed the street in Baltimore and anyone who has picked up there knows how jacked it can be. It took me a little bit to figure out how to get back to my PU spot but I did and was still 30 minutes early. This load is the same weight as my last but it feels a lot different, the truck pulls it better, could be because its 3k heavier on the tandems vs 2k on the previous load. Any which way, Im climbing the hills better.

With any luck I will get called in to Conover where I will have to sit for a day to recap hours but might as well do a 34 and start fresh.

I'm back and with a little time. It seems all I do is drive and sleep. Right now I'm in Green River, UT sitting for a 10 hour break. I ran out of hours yesterday after making a delivery at Sams/Walmart distribution center in Loveland, CO and a drop/hook in Ft. Collins at Bud. Now I'm running on recaps and starting tomorrow they get longer. I'm heading to Vegas to unload and don't have a clue where I'm going next. I am really starting to enjoy this whole gig.

I happened to be at home when I needed a 34 so it was nice to see the girlfriend and do laundry. I have seen a couple of nice pay checks and hope they continue, I'm almost on par for what I was making at the job I quit to do this. I think my girlfriend has finally come to terms with me having to be out for 3-4 weeks at a time which is good. We (really she) are gearing up for a move to the northwest in a couple months so the longer I'm out the more I can squander away for that.

Don't really have any complaints about the company but do about the equipment. So far I have had 2 alternators, 1 air pump, 1 steering shaft, 2 steer breaks, 1 rear drive shaft, 1 ac unit controller, 1 pig tail, fuel gauge float (or sender) and several fuses replaced which put me down for a total of 5 days all together. I guess that's not bad considering its an '06 Volvo. I just had an oil change done and they do a full inspection along with a lube and the mechanic said everything else looked good.

Well that's all for now, my laundry just got done.

LOL. That was one of the reasons that I left Watkins. Those "dead-pull" tandem rods, and arm-breaker levers are a pain! I got great fuel mileage in my Volvo, (1791), but I could write up an air leak every time I got to a shop. Great people to work for, but the sad state of some of their equipment got me worrying about DOT inspections and I had to go.

Are they holding on to the pre-2007 trucks in an effort to keep their overhead down due to DEF consumption? o_O

not really def, just overall cheaper. but now the cost of maintaining the older trucks is catching up, so they are replacing them. just purchased 150 new volvos, and will be buying another 150 1st quarter next year.
