Also if I use 8 day weeks, it will come out to around 45 weeks per year working time, which equals my actual annual working time with three days off a month. Either way, I will strive for 46-49k for the year like American Trucker. Have you read his story at ws?

Please do not count on the miles you are referring to, you will be in for a huge disappointment. There are so many variables that will hinder you achieving that goal. Delays at shippers and receivers, you being from Cali, you know what traffic in places like L.A. can be like. Weather will play a HUGE factor in making miles, (8 hours to get across the Sierras, after chain up, traffic, slow driving, 4 wheelers spinning out, and then unchaining).

I would like to say thank you for your service to the security of our Nation and the best of luck in your future career as a truck driver, as someone that has done both, neither is very easy.

Thanks. Yeah I forgot about this when using a forum. It's been a while. I totally understand and I will be more careful about how I say things. I hope to just drive and run out my clock, but I know in real life you have to hurry up and wait no matter what you do. Thanks for looking out for my expectations everyone! It is appreciated.

Good Luck Dewsy Watkins/Shepard sounds like a good company with co-workers (office, dispatch, etc) that are on your side. At least, that's what I get from reading older treads from a few Watkins drivers. Keep us informed on your experiences.

Glad to hear your comng up for orientation. I just got through it and I am just a couple years older than you.probably not as good of shape since your ex military. I hae a few problems passimg the hpv and my blood presure so I went home and came back a month later to try again.hWhen I got back no fewer than 3 people told me how glad they were that I came back to try again. To me that says something about the people that work there. It is a very intense 10 days and yes you are under a microscope.just think of it as a 10 day long interview on company property and off.if you have any ?'s feel free to ask.W/S is a great company to work for as you will find out. Good luck to you.

Dewsy, How did you get the pre hire from San Diego? I input my zip code on their website and it came back not hiring in that area.

I'm averaging between 2000 and 2500 per week. This takes in to account live loads, shop maintenance, traffic, hills, weight of the load and location. There are a lot of loads out of sfs, a vast majority run on the west coast and range from 800-1200 miles. My average take home per week runs around $500-600, there are weeks where it's more and weeks where it's less. Running out east is where the real money is because of the multi stops. I just spent pretty much the whole month of August over there and saw some nice change. I prefer the west coast though.
