So, got my pre hire from ws and will e going to Missoula on 9/24. I spent months researching companies online. I cannot find any other company that reads so well. So I am very glad to be coming on. I am 52 years old with 20 of them serving in our Navy. I appreciate everyone writing about their experiences, and I look forward to meeting and working with you all.

"Dewsy" A few things here, As you well know, You are NOT "Hired" till you finish the 10 Days! You being former Military you will do fine, Do the practicing do the real things that you need to, They do not give you a hired till you are hired, They send guys home for not very much at all, You should be fine, they send guys home for health issues, they send guys home for fighting with each other, I hear you will have a car there to drive, If I was you depending on where you are coming from I would fly right into Missoula, I know a guy that flew in there and didn't ride the crazy bus! They will reimburse you up to the amount of the bus towards a airfare, My friend got his full airfare reimbursed! If there is anything anyone can help you with feel free remember if someone asks for volunteers to take the trash out of the offices... Do it, If they ask you how you are doing answer them, you are under a microscope the whole time you are there, It is intense but nothing as intense as the boot camp you went through when you were a little younger, Just remember it is a impress me time from the time you get there till you get in a truck, I hear they have several ways to get you to your truck, they sometimes put you in a truck to get to your truck and then they may put you in a rental car and send you and a few guys on a cross country crusade to get your truck, my friend went in a rented Suburban from Missoula down to SLC and dropped a guy off there then to Toole Ut. for another guy then PHX and dropped my friend off and took the other two drivers to Santa Fe Ca. for the other two guys. They turned in the rental at L.A. Airport. I wish you well.

By the way Thank You for Your Service.

Totally understood. Just a pre-hire as I said, and scheduled for orientation. I will drive there from San Diego, and once hired, drive back home a get a truck at SFS. Thanks for you input!

Dewsy, Did you get your CDL at a school in San Diego? If so, which one? I've done some research too, have you checked out Prime, Knight and Schneider? W&S seems like low pay.

United. For me. I don't care for what I have read on those companies. Only as a last resort. Also, money is only part of the picture for me. I am ready to drive 4000 miles a week, and only need three or four days a month at home. For research, I have used these boards, trucking truth, indeed.com and rip off report.com. Please take each review with a grain of salt, cause its usually people with big oroblems that complain the most. Good luck wherever you go!

JBinSD : W&S has many dedicated accounts which is a plus for the driver. Look at the number of terminals they have nationwide! The irregular route carriers will have more drivers hoping and waiting for loads. Higher milage pay doesn't translate to larger paychecks if the consistant miles aren't there. With dedicated accounts across the nation, the weekly pay & miles should have far less fluctuation. Assessorial pays also ad much to the annual pay.

I wasn't putting down W/S at all. Just curious as to why the decision. 4000 miles a week? I don't think that's possible under the HOS rules.

I've been doing research as well. Haven't decided yet.

4000 a week is 572 miles a day. That's just under 9 hours at 65 mph. Sure, you are not going to Avg 65, and you are going to manage your time to stay under 70 hours in 8 day. But we can get pretty close to 4000 I think.

Sure if you calculate a week being 8 days. You might want to average it over a month.

I've been told on a couple of different forums that 10,000 miles a month is average. On a good month you might get 13,000.

You are correct. Didn't mean to get you going on technicalities. I said "I am ready to drive..." Meaning willing and able. Not meaning "I am going to drive...". Best of luck in your decision. I hope it works out for me too.
