My wife and I are currently in a Watkins / Shepard accepted CDL school. We have orientation slated for Feb. in NC. We plan to team drive. We want to know how strict our driving expectations will be when we are at orientation... For example: Will we be sent home for bumping a curb? We both are improving every day. We have not started driving off of the school property yet, just a lot backing every day.. We are excited about the possibility of working for W/S. Can anyone tell us about what to expect or give us any tips?

    Thank you for your time.

dont worry. you wont hit a curb. when you leave the school youll be better at turns. as for the driving test. the tester at orientation knows your a newbie and so is your wife. so dont worry.

You'll be expected to operate and move the truck in a safe manner.

Your own dispatch as far as I was told when I was there, they may drop a single load on you every now and again, when you are doing your road test ask them, Do you want extra wide turns or bouncing off the curb? I would swing wide better to go wide then nerf a curb and be sent packing.

If your going to Conover then there is nothing to worry about. The city driving part of the test is downtown Hickory from what I remember. When I finished Tim asked RL how I did on the city driving and I butted in an said that wasn't city driving that was back country driving for me. I took my driving test around Newark, NJ. Again, you both will be fine. They will make sure you do good since you are teaming.

Thanks.... we are closest to Dalton GA... recruiter couldn't tell us much about where and what we will be hauling... someone else a few weeks back said Carpet..California..Terminal to terminal... We are not wanting to be dedicated for a while if thats what they meant... We do want to travel west a lot though.
