Watkins appears to be making a lot of changes... purchasing new trucks, removing drivers, ect.... where are they in the process?... almost there? Just starting? Not trying to throw any punches ... just asking. :biggrin_25517:

I'm not sure how far along they are, I would like to know too. They must be getting down to business if they fired their safety manager and 50+ drivers!

Why is the raw number of inspections a red flag?

Raw numbers w/o comparison or analysis. Which violations are the failures of drivers and which are failures of the company?

Can we conclude from this W/S equipment is poorly maintained?

A new driver has enough problems as it is.

The name of the game is,

    Reducing Your Risks !!!

Try to even the playing field as much as possible.

All aspects of a company, need to be considered.

And the highest starting pay rate,

should NOT even factor into your decision.

Dodges the question: "If you were driving for a marginal company, would you not welcome DOT scrutiny?"

Seems vague, but... you would have preferred to continue to operate with an OOS equipment violation...? The official who discovered it is not your friend, because...?

A red flag isn't enough evidence for a conclusion.

Yeah... "The Ig Nobel Prizes honor achievements that first make people laugh, and then makes them think."

What about it, by the way...?

Oh. You'd rather risk killing or injuring someone. Interesting perspective.

Fascinating. What are those issues... with regard to the serviceability/legality of their equipment as it leaves their shop/s...?

jungledrums, many of those violations were written on their flatbed division. Many of the writeups are just nitpicking and should have just been pointed out to the driver. Some of that simple stuff should have been caught on pre-trip inspection and fixed in a few minutes.

We used to put a twist in the nylon straps on flatbed securement so they wouldn't make a loud popping in the wind, but now DOT put a stop to it claiming the twist weakens the strap which is not true.

I wouldn't be the least bit hesitant to work for W&S, but with 3.5 million truck drivers in America, we won't all agree on much of anything.

To be fair, they probably said a twist can/causes forces to be unequally distributed, thus reducing effective strength, which seems intuitive to me. Nitpicky? Probably, but I have no idea how many straps are broken in transit, with or without a twist.

That's probably closer to 3.4 million steering agents, and 100,000 drivers.

The one alert in unsafe driving. That is being addressed and the numbers are getting better.
The two other alerts are from an audit where there were clerical issues. Those alerts remain for a year even though the numbers are not enough to create an alert in the , "On the Road" section.
We are moving to People Net and have started Smith Driving Training for all of our drivers.
Safety is paramount for Watkins Shepard and the numbers are improving and will continue to improve.
