I will be going to orientation soon. My recruiter said that W/S also has a short mentor stent if I need it.
I'm not sure what to expect as far as education, so I don't know how to plan for my trip to Conover.

I don't see any reason my wife needs a mentor (they do offer female trainers) , but I on the other hand need to learn some things not covered in CDL school.
    I can show her.

    If you have time,
Will these important activities be covered at orientation or not, will they be covered by a short term mentor?

    Cat Scales?

    Learning to float gears?

Tandem and Tractor sliding assembly changes ?
along with knowing how far distributes how much weight to where?

    Chaining?

Learning when to pull the plug when winter driving?
(I live in the south, but want to learn and be good at winter driving)

Winter care for the truck fuel problems or torch to free breaks?

Hooking a 50ft. hose to the Tractor air compressor?

    using an APU?

Fueling duel tanks at same time using one pump(using DEF?)

    Securing freight?

    Jake Brake?

    Proper Chocking?

OTHER things you may want me to ask or about?

Cat scales. Pull on scale, push talkie button, they'll say " park and come in" . Pay for scale ticket.

Some use a cb channel for communication.

Floating gears - play around with it when you're not under stress sometime. Not necessary, I just like to float up and clutch down.

You're over thinking the situation. You'll be just fine. Relax! Those questions will be answered during orientation.

5th wheel slides and trailer tandem slides. Get someone to show you how, its easier with 2 (your wife), 5th wheel slides easier when dollied down to take some weight.

Trailer, often 200-400 per hole. Draw diagram to help you understand the physics. Rand McNally for state limits.

    MAKE SURE PINS ARE IN!

Chaining ? If you have to. Otherwise park it and watch the fun ensue. Late load is better than el accidente.

If you do, buy lots if bungees to tighten chains. Threads on here about chains.

Trailer brakes freezing? Dry them out with gentle application while driving, and I never set my trailer brakes in winter.

Carry big as short hammer for . . . . Lots of reasons.

Buy some tools ( threads on here also).
